This nice old SJ belong to WKC member MartyG. Here’s the story to go with the pics:
Thanks to a fellow member here in Chicago, (Thin Blue Smoke aka: Todd) I was able to secure this fine example of a Smokey Joe from the year my son was born – 1981. Finding an old kettle is one thing, but an unused 33-year old kettle in the original box is a unique score. It’s likely this will remain an “office kettle” for me – it fits nicely on top of my bookcase and it would be a shame to dirty it up – at least for now. The packaging is all there, along with the paperwork – including an ad for the Weber Web – their “new” bug zapper that year. (I have a couple of those too – but that will be another story) Nice to see how they packed these up to prevent damage, and I included those photos as inspiration for anyone shipping a kettle like this.
