The 1980 Weber Charcoal grill is identified by lid vent with the modern embossed or “raised” WEBER logo. Date code “B”. The turn tab on the lid vent is large and matches the large turn tabs on the bowl vents or “daisy wheels”. This style of lid vent is very similar to those made today. The ash catcher is the rolled edge twist on style with the optional hold down clips. The wheels are the modern style with plastic whitewalls.
Changes in 1980
First change of course is the date code from A (1979) over to B (1980).
The next change is the addition of the ash pan clips used to hold the twist ash catchers down to prevent them from being pushed upward and blowing away in high winds. These are the same style clips seen today on the modern One Touch Silver/Original Kettle models.
1980 is also the final year that weber made the charcoal grills with metal bowl handles as towards the end of the year (Fall of 1980) the bowl handles were changed over to a double riveted teak style to match the lid handle.
