How far would you drive for a $10 kettle?

I was doing my usual search on the boards last night and much to my surprise up popped a single picture of a brownie!

It was the first that I have seen in my area of the country in the two years that I have been involved.

The post was only 5 minutes old when I responded. The seller kindly updated the post to "pending" and we made arrangements for a pickup this afternoon.

As it turned out Bridgewater Virginia is a bit of a hike from Richmond (125miles). I figured what the hell...new year... vacation to burn, why not?

Took the half day and made the drive to the other side of Shenandoah Nation park.

I wasn't disappointed. The kettle is in wonderful shape with some minor rim rash and one small porcelain pop. It had a new grate and she through in a bag of coal and some cedar planks to boot!

Five hour and 280 miles round trip and I had my first brownie. A good day on the hunt.

Nice Chocolate there!  I probably would have tried to get the seller to ship or get an agent if it were me. Good for you and nice score.

Well I finally got this one cleaned up!  Planning to cook on it for the first time tomorrow.

How much time do you usually spend on a cooker?

While this was by no means a perfect restoration, I did spend several hours getting the crude off and putting in a new set of sweeps and handles.

Got to admit I love cleaning these up. Shouldn't have waited so long!

Cleaned up really nice! I drove farther for my MBH brownie few years ago.
