I was all in until I found out it wasn't going to be U.S. made. No thanks. I can deal with some items being made overseas, but something I will be cooking on being made in China? No thanks.

Shiner,  got bad news for you.  Weber has not been manufactured in the US in some time now.  The vent lid was reworded to say
Designed and Engineered in Palatine Il.  They are not allowed to say MADE in USA if it is made overseas.

Others can chime in but this goes back at least to  2012

They are not allowed to say "Made in the USA" if ANY PART OF IT is NOT made in the USA.
There's a pretty big difference.

My thing about it being made in China doesn't stem from a "buy American" theme. It's about the cadmium.

Are you concerned about cooking on one of these for health reasons?  @charred

Not really. I have reds that I cook on. But, they're old. They're not a new product, that I personally am funding, which requires cadmium. I wonder about the manufacturing facility and how safe the process will be for the workers. Besides, I'm more interested in old kettles.

I don't know what they make in Huntley Illinois but there is a FUCKING HUMONGOUS Weber facility there.  It's by my dad's house and its large.    They must be doing something in there....

The only way I'd be disappointed is if it were a flat red like the flat slate blue they make on the Limited Edition Canadian ones.

Flat red is better than NO red at all. Would I prefer shiny red? Absolutely. It seems that we've jumped the gun and managed to point out everything wrong with something that hasn't been available in nearly 20 years. Was the 26er kettle the SAME design specs when it was re-released? No. Was the Jumbo Joe? No. Will the red be just like a shiney 60s, 70s, 80s red? Maybe yes, maybe no. As far as it coming from China, many people here that are upset about that have more electronics and other things around the house that come from there than one may realize. Weber is listening. I DO think that our great community has had some influence. Let's not take something special like this and spin it into something negative before we have all of the details. As for Topper being on the grill? ABSOLUTELY!! TWICE!! On the lid AND the bezel. Topper IS Weber history. How cool would some sweet Zavod Topper handles look with this special edition grill? Call it the Topper Red, I say. I'll cook on it with great pride and with great pleasure.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that they turn out one hell of a fine product in that facility. Just a wild guess....

You're right Craig. I will retract some of my earlier comments. It is really awesome of Weber to bring it back and I really do hope we see some of the colors of old return. How about a yellow then a brownie next?  It does suck to pay upfront sight unseen. I think seeing it in person would change a lot of the opinions already out there on this deal. In reality I'd probably trade my crimson performer for one if it was the bright red of old.

Looking for: Red MBH 26"(The Aristocrat), Chestnut-coppertone (The Estate), Glen-blue (The Imperial), and The Plainsman.

"The Bobs" ask and expectation is the color will be the bright fire engine red we all like.  Ship has sailed on Topper (bezel it is)....I think the grill will look nice with a mod of 1960's steel wheels with rubber tread and white walls.

My understanding is that the kettles and all charcoal burning products are still made in the USA, in either Palatine or Huntley, Illinois. The gassers are where, per my understanding, things get iffy as to origin of parts/manufacture.
If anyone runs across a good deal in Oklahoma please let me know.

Your old product has cadmium as well. That's what gave it that nice red colour.

Bright fire engine red is what I am also thinking. We already have Crimson red made in USA without cadmium.

QuoteCadmium is a term used to describe a class of brilliant pigments that include cadmium as one of its chemical components. Hues containing cadmium sulfide vary from lemon yellow to orange; adding increasing amounts of cadmium selenium produces a red pigment which can be very dark, almost black. Cadmium yellow is sometimes mixed with viridian to give a bright, pale green mixture called cadmium green.

How about yellow, orange, glen blue in the future if this Red kettle becomes a hit. Very possible I am thinking.  I am not sure about the pricing though. $199 is in the MT territory. As a OKP, it should be priced closer to reg.$ of 149 is what I am thinking.  Not for me, but for many others might not like this plus the additional shipping cost.  We will just have to wait and see how this turns out.

Whatever maybe the case or the cost... this is really exciting news.  The way I see it, instead of complaining about no colors offered.... if we stand behind this opportunity by Weber, we will get more colors in the future. If you don't like the idea of Weber's decision to make this special edition off shore.....step aside.  There are many of us who want this to happen.

Let me try to explain this again.  The kettle bowls and lids are manufactured in Palatine from steel from Canada, and the US. The charcoal baskets are made in China, the regular non hinged grates are made in China, the hinged grates are made in Taiwan. the charcoal grates are made in China. Where the legs or the vents are made, I do not know, where the screws and nuts & rivets come from, I do not know. I'm not sure how long this has gone on, but parts have been foreign sourced for quite a while.
