I was all in until I found out it wasn't going to be U.S. made. No thanks. I can deal with some items being made overseas, but something I will be cooking on being made in China? No thanks.

Shiner,  got bad news for you.  Weber has not been manufactured in the US in some time now.  The vent lid was reworded to say
Designed and Engineered in Palatine Il.  They are not allowed to say MADE in USA if it is made overseas.

Others can chime in but this goes back at least to  2012

My understanding is that the kettles and all charcoal burning products are still made in the USA, in either Palatine or Huntley, Illinois. The gassers are where, per my understanding, things get iffy as to origin of parts/manufacture.
Let me try to explain this again.  The kettle bowls and lids are manufactured in Palatine from steel from Canada, and the US. The charcoal baskets are made in China, the regular non hinged grates are made in China, the hinged grates are made in Taiwan. the charcoal grates are made in China. Where the legs or the vents are made, I do not know, where the screws and nuts & rivets come from, I do not know. I'm not sure how long this has gone on, but parts have been foreign sourced for quite a while.

As far as the gassers are concerned, the Summit series and the Genesis2 LX series are made in the US. The SX series are made overseas.

Is it just going to Alliance dealers? If so, mine loves to mark things up. The SCG is 2k and 2.5k respectively. I'll probably wind up plopping down $250 for the OKP. Not sure I can justify that.
Still need a 22" yellow

I agree Darko ... None of the new grills are 100% made in the USA anymore.  Open up a new kettle and there are parts in there made overseas.  The red bowl and lid will just be another piece.  I trust that Weber will not chance their reputation by delivering a sub par product; especially in a limited edition.

I'm stoked to be able to buy my first new RED Weber grill. This may sound corny, but I grew up in an apartment complex in Queens, NYC. We weren't allowed to have BBQs there.  I was always jealous of my parents friends that lived in the suburbs and were able to own and use a BBQ. A couple of friends had Webers, one was red.  My experience with grilling was limited to a little hibachi grill at the beach or one of those grocery store disposables.

Fast forward to December 1999 when I moved out of the city to Long Island. Spring 2000 comes and I go to local BBQ dealer to finally buy a red Weber. DENIED. Red is no longer available. :( We settle for a dark green gasser. A fine machine, still grilling today, but not what I always wanted.

Since I've found this place, a couple of nice members have helped me find and buy those red grills, Zavod has made me some great wood handles, and I've learned so much about grilling and Weber's place in history as an American icon. But, as silly as it sounds, I'm personally gonna be stoked to finally be able to open that box and find that bright red kettle inside.  :)

Wow! Those are Canadian prices.

I look at it  this way....
Sure, I can buy an old Weber... but I see Weber making a grill that we as Grillfella's have been wanting for a long time. Weber has finally figured out (or finally decided to make one for us true fans). It may not be perfect for what we want as individuals, but it is good for the group. Don't forget... Weber needs to make money on this as well. Perhaps, this is the best that they could do.

I have been wanting Weber to do a retro grill for a long time and yes this is not exactly what I had hoped for, but I will definitely take it.  I will look past the bolt on handle and some of the other issues and can't wait til I'm sitting in my living room unboxing and playing with my new red kettle this November.  This has been a great week and I'm super excited!

I've been in contact with my weber dealer here in canada to see if it's available here, he is checking into it for me and i will update when I hear back from him..

captjoe06

I'd be a total hypocrite sitting here bitching that only Canada and EU get different color kettles and how badly I wanted one and then now that it comes out, pass on it, LOL.

I'm all in.

I don't know what they make in Huntley Illinois but there is a FUCKING HUMONGOUS Weber facility there.  It's by my dad's house and its large.    They must be doing something in there....

Maybe storing all the stuff made in China?

Also......................Do we have confirmation that anyone besides Kevin Kolman currently works for Weber in the States? How much do Harris and Dorka really know and how long will it take to reveal? Will a spare taco be included in the bottom of the box? Will Canada get a Celsius version of the new Red?...I am calling a dealer now to find out. And when will this this thread hit 20 pages and ten thousand views?
"Why do you have so many bbq's?"....."I just like lookin' at em' sometimes....and I have enough purses and shoes"

My thing about it being made in China doesn't stem from a "buy American" theme. It's about the cadmium.

Are you concerned about cooking on one of these for health reasons?  @charred

Not really. I have reds that I cook on. But, they're old. They're not a new product, that I personally am funding, which requires cadmium. I wonder about the manufacturing facility and how safe the process will be for the workers. Besides, I'm more interested in old kettles.
Your old product has cadmium as well. That's what gave it that nice red colour.

@Darko No shit Sherlock.  :)

But they're already manufactured. No new use of cadmium was necessary.
