finally! she is all done - Redhead SSP restore underway

Inspired by recent SSP restores, I decided to take this one on first. It is all in pieces ready to be cleaned first.





Tight fitting lid from dropped on the side is all fixed up now and cleaned up. Inside was one of the toughest to clean. Needs to be cleaned more. Also, trying to take the bolts for the burner bracket assy. off the bowl to clean has resulted in one bolt needing to be cut off so far. This project been fighting me from the get go,but I am not ready to give up yet. I will update progress as needed.

So far, Cleaned the lid and the small section SS top.  Next, take off all parts off the bowl and clean it.

As expected, that one bolt on the burner bracket assy. fought me hard. I slotted the head and crossed it till I could got a good grip with ratchet on both the head and the nut. Eventually, the bolt broke off not the head. Bottom bolt on the lid bale assy. also had to be slotted as it was just spinning. This one, the bolt head got slotted and chipped off as I had no other way of getting it off.






I had easier time working on a car exhaust or frame bolts that were rusted on with impact ranch and some heat than trying to take these 2 bolts off.  I tried propane torch to heat but did not work.  Ready to clean the bowl tomorrow.  Hopefully will be smooth sailing from here and on.

@greenweb, those bolts can be a pain. Typically if I can't get it off with hand tools I'll cut the nut side with a dremel and reinforced cutoff wheel. Super easy and quick

Thanks for your suggestion.  I don't know how I would do it without marking up the inside of the bowl which I wanted to avoid. I used the dremel cutoff wheel on the bolt head on the outside.  Come to think of it, I guess if you cut off the nut even half without touching the bowl should still work. Great suggestion.

I have used a technique of drilling through the bolts from the screw side to remove them. Start with a small bit, and then incrementally increase the bit size until you get the bolt to fall off.

It works great with no (or very little) risk of damaging the bowl.

You actually don't even need to cut all the way through. It will shear off if you cut it 3/4 of the way and try to loosen it. Everyone has their own comfort level for how steady their hands are with power tools so do what works best for you!
