Has anybody expanded their 18” WSM with a 22” Kettle?
« on: December 03, 2017, 08:32:54 AM »
A recent post about fitting a brisket on an 18” Kettle made me think how well would a 22” Kettle bowl (sand legs and sweepers) would fit on top of the 18” WSM. I have no doubt that it would fit on top when the top grate is removed from the WSM, but I am more curious about how is the seal between the kettle and the midsection of the WSM? And then the other question is how well does the heat transfer to Kettle? Can you get to 225-250 degrees in the bowl?

Love to hear from anybody who has done this.

Yes, I did this, it works great especially for that brisket that is just too big for the 18 WSM.

I used nomex at the base to seal it.

Lb, that looks like it worked great. I too would like to utilize this method at some point.

Couldn’t a one touch kettle be nested without cutting the bottom out?  Just curious.

Probably but my kettle was so roached it decided to cut it and get max airflow.

That’s exactly what I was looking for. I am going to try and find a beat up Kettle online and make this mod.

Thanks everyone for the replies and photos. Love seeing everyone’s ideas and innovations.

I used mine to smoke a couple loads of salmon, ~125* for a while.

Suddenly I'm seeing an idea for a mower's recoil starter, and some ash sweeps.
It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch

I’m thrilled that my stacker mod is still being shared!  Thanks for the mention Mac. It worked great and was fun to do.  I haven’t been on here much for a while but thought I’d say hi and I will try to show my face around here more often.  Hope everyone is well.

Lol @Lumpy Coal I shared your kettle stacker photo and thread in the kettle section earlier today to someone who was interested in the cajun bandit stacker. I don't see a reason to get the Cajun bandit stacker at 200$ when you could find a used kettle for 30$ ( if money is no issue spend away lol).
