We went to visit my sister in law in New Mexico
« on: June 08, 2014, 08:30:52 PM »
She has a Weber grill, but she just moved from Phoenix, and apparently not every piece of the grill made it to New Mexico.  The charcoal grate and the ash pan were MIA.  So I stopped at ACE and got a Charcoal grate but no dice on the ash pan.  So I had to improvise.  Anyhow, we wanted to make sausage and peppers and I used that as an excuse to buy a 17" lodge cast iron pan that I have had my eye on for a long time.  Anyhow I got the grill fired up and got the pan on got it heated up and tossed in the ingredients to cook.  I thought I would take a few pics of the landscape....

Almost done....

Time to eat...

I could get used to New Mexico..

Nice cook! Seems Ace doesn't sell replacement ash catchers around here anymore either.

Wow, amazing view and great looking cook. Did you pre-cook those potatoes before you put them in the pan? I usually have a hard time getting potatoes done when I don't start them with a boil.

I tried to get that brownie at a flea market, it was gone, someone here said they were trying.  Hopefully they got.  I did drive the 20 hrs, I did it in two days. I like to stop along the way, I hate driving straight through I think it's horrible. We try to slice the potatoes small so they cook faster.  You can always start the potatoes first and let then cook a while......

Beautiful scenery and great looking grub. But I have to admit that I like that 17" CI pan the best. ;) Did it come with a lid?

Wow.  That first shot is worthy of a postcard.  I too love showing up at loved ones places and cooking.  Nice wood handles it looks like sister has on her kettle.

Edit:  I really do like that first shot.  Saved it like I often do when I come across a exceptional shot of a Kettle.  Sometimes I make it my desktop shot on the computer.  Hope you don't mind:

Under abit of stress right now, doing a road trip tommorrow to the tip of Nova Scotia.....and found out my 2 week old cold has become pnemonia.  Looking at my computers just now put me in a happy place.  I think I understand at least part of the reason your sister moved.
