A tale of a hard(ish) to find Weber in Tx.
« on: May 29, 2014, 06:17:25 PM »
Whilst perusing Craigslist yesterday evening. My tired, aching fingers happened across an ad for a performer. This ad showed a pic of a stock photo of a newer style, most likely picked from the Googles.

As a curious soul I contacted the seller. Just on a weird hunch. The Performer ended up being a SS Blue. Insert a *HOLY SH*T* <there.

Spoke with the seller for a hot minute. Told him the grill was sold. No questions. Will be picked up after work tonight. Hoping that the seller would hold his word.

I dont know if any local guys were in on this. The seller did mention a few people turned down the purchase due to a "little rust"

Went straight to nab this sucker after work. The day wouldnt end fast enough.

Not only did I pick up the grill, I also bartered in a push mower I spied in the garage. I need one as you will see in the photo.

The grill is a DU vent code. A few bumps and bruises. Missing the lid thermo. Should clean up nicely.

Family pic fresh out the car. Nevermind the grass.

Will look deeper into this weekend to further survey whats what. All I seen was a colored SS Performer.

Sweet, glad he didn't sell it to someone else before you got there! How bad is the inside?

Good work.

What's that yellow totem pole in the background?

That yellow totem pole is a mini uds. Wanted something larger than a tamale pot but smaller than a 55 gallon drum. Just happened to find a SJ gold laying around in a barn and I already had the 15 gallon drum.

Its a project I never told anyone about. Lets keep it a secret shall we?

Very nice, Jimmy! I'm sure the SS will be your go-to when it's completed. I also like your 15g UDS!

Good luck with the secret part! ;D
Does it seal well? Can you hang ribs in it? What did you use for a diffuser?

Oh, by the way, that is a  sweet SS !

The mini uds has not been finished yet.

For a diffuser I plan on a round cake pan located in the lower section, just above the basket.

2 grates for more options for space.

It just so happens that the grates from the SJ fit perfectly in the drum. How nice is that?

This was a project out of seeing these 2 things in the vicinity of one another. I turn away for a sec and the drum has mated the SJ like its a job or something.

Quite a nice stable of grills at the Dong compound.  Not sure if a push mower is enough for that lawn but it was a nice score....

Nice score, jimmy_dong! I love your line up of cookers.  :D 8)

now I gotta start looking for a 60 litres drum!

Check out a quickie type oil change place.
That's where I got mine for free and then built a mini UDS. It had had gear oil in it previously.
Gave it a good burn before building. They are a 60 litre, or 16 US gallon drum.

The Brownie I got from Duke. It was taken apart for transpo. I didnt have it assembled when this pic was taken. It is standing now.
