Stock up on the cheapest brushes @ the end of summer; I generally clean swiftly after "preheated," never had issue of fray.

+variable width: Carbon steel angle scraper (for paint & sheetrock work) clears the surface of a hot grill grate before food & cold scrapes post-cook fairly well

Simple checking/wipe prevents a loose bristle risk in food.

I'm a big fan of this one. Available many places, I think under different brand names.


It is far an away the best I have used. It lasts surprisingly long. I have yet to wear it out, although perhaps soon. I'm hoping I can figure out a way to replace the scrubby pads.

I use one of these before.  I prefer the one above to this one with a longer handle. Better force applied to grates and better access to the edge of the grate.
