Charrederhead !!!!!!
This is almost too much on the same day as the Meat kettle !!!!
That's a lifetimer right there.....immediately into service....I like that.... 8)
Pinch yourself just one more time for me !!!
Wow, whats the story?
PS: That may very well be the very best example yet of one of these, also !!!!!
Very minimal rust on the kettle itself & the rest of it CAN be cleaned & cleared ............
Unbelievable score. Beautiful.
Wow that is a cool grill! That chicken looks killer!

Wow, whats the story?
Yesterday I spotted this on CL, 7 hours after it was posted. IN THE FREE SECTION. There was one pic.
Communication w/ the owner was a nightmare, and I wasn't even sure it would be there when I left at 6:30 to go get it.
The guy said it was left by the previous owners and that it was "about 15 years old" and worn, but still worked.
With the knowledge I got from this place, I knew it was a 56-57. BUT, I wasn't aware of this paint scheme. I thought someone had had some fun somewhere along the way and had psychodelecized it!
When I returned home, I logged in and saw the pic of the one here and couldn't believe my luck.
Basically I took a nice drive through gorgeous upstate NY, bought some great produce, and was given this classic.
Pinch pinch pinch!
(More than makes up for the nearly-new 22.5 OTG Simpsons for $50 I missed a week ago!)
Pinch pinch pinch!
Pic heavy post and lovin every one of them.
Wow. Just wow. That is awesome. Where in upstate NY did you find it?
Beautiful grill. Thanks for sharing pictures! :)
That's awesome, looks like the wheels are white. Does the pan look like it was painted?

Remarkable! Thanks for the pictures!
Don't let that grill go!! That's an epic find.
Mind blown.....first the Custom now this. That is in better condition than kettles half its age. Twist ash pan and ash bottom tray. Congratulations....it'll be tough for you to top that one.
Fantastic find! What a beautiful grill!
Ken
Amazing find. great news.
Wow! Unbelievable find! Congrats! ...and thanks for cooking on it, right away!
CHARRED RULZ! gets a freebie 57, cooks chicken on it, drops mic. Epic, yo.
Speechless!! Hell of a find and a WKC'er after my own heart with the "cooked on it that night!" maneuver. 8)
Just....WOW!!! :D
That ash catcher (twist disc) had to have been added later on. Between 1963-1979 as a replacement/addition. The Wood Dale 18s/22s from about '58 until '63 had the U-notched swivel clipped ash pans...
OK......this thing's been alive almost as long as me (turned 59 yesterday) and the porcelain's STILL OK IN THE BOTTOM OF THE BOWL !!!!!!
Amazing find. Congratulations!
Congrats! That is a truly amazing story and grill. So glad to see you cooked on it!

I can't contain myself after today with these 2 grills. Unbelievable!
Hey, it's caddywhampus! I'd ask for my money back. ;D
Seriously, must be the supermoon effect. The moon's gravity is drawing out the deeply hidden ones and making people crazy enough to give them away! Can't wait to see this one cleaned up. And thanks for giving us all hope...they're out there!

Yeah, a couple of classics on the same day!
Prefer that pinch come from you, assuming that avatar is your likeness! 8)
Btw- Happy birthday! I'm hoping the grill was born in '56, like me.

Thanks for that info. I hadn't noticed the ashpan particulars on that '57 sky-blue beauty.
Good to know I'm not the only circa '56 member here! With buckie just ahead of us, looks like we're the elders - or at least the codgers. Is there anyone older among us? My birthday was Friday the 8th. I too would love to find a '56 kettle someday.
Alright Marty! Go '56!
Here's to:
Seasoned veterans....wise elders...OLD and stupid...young at heart...older and dumber...grizzled gramps... ;)

Read my featured member profile for the hints.
OK - I think I got it. 1952 was a leap year, and MM's first starring role in "Don't Bother to Knock." (She was "born" in that leap year...) And needless to say, we're ALL looking for a kettle from '52!
That means, so far, Dazzo is the grand wazoo of oldsters here at the WKC. Thanks for making me feel young!
Sorry Marty, time to feel old again :o
QuoteIn 1946, she began using the stage name Marilyn Monroe, but did not legally change her name until February 23, 1956.
Also a leap year.
My BD isn't until Saturday 8)
You win!
Actually, I think buckie still wins ;D
Well buckie does have the grand wazoo look and all... 8)
Sounds like we need a class of '56/'57 meetup someday.
Oh, and 58 is the new 39 anyway. ;)
Oh man....

"Cletus Awreetus-Awrightus" said the grand wazoo !!!!!
the older you are, the harder it is to find a birth year kettle......
congrats on that Charred !!!!
.....there's only one 1955 that I know of.......you pups ....... 8)
now I remember we already ran across this tidbit, Marty.....
"My birthday was Friday the 8th"
Same here!!!!!
.
Great find!!
Happy Birthday, Ken and Marty! :D
Freakin awesome! 8)
Nate, just an awesome score. Many would take that windshield time. And free! Pinch 10X!!!
Buckie and Marty I feel your pain, we are elders. But i think my Woody is older than me, at least I think so...
Jeezus, What a gorgeous grill.
And the chicken looked good too.
Beautiful. Congrats on the score and kudos for cooking on it.
Oh man that's amazing!! Killer find charred!

PS- And thanks to all for the kind words!
Great find and great rescue! I better get back to checking CL again...

Don't get me wrong, I am really happy that you got this grill and became a member of this forum. I do have to say that I'm pretty upset with myself for not seeing this one on Craigslist I live right near Oneonta. That is an amazing find and Im really glad that it was saved and will be enjoyed.
I drove through Stamford on the way.
Rt.s 82 and 23, mostly. Beautiful country!
Wait so this paint job was original?

It is original. These are called customs. Somewhere there is a white one with black squiggles. Very cool grills and pretty rare.

Oh man, I just looked at the date! I thought charred had just put this up! Ha!

What color did Weber call it?
I believe it was simply called Custom.
I could be wrong, and I've yet to see the other Custom with the black.
One of the rarest kettles out there.
Nice find! And the price was right, too!
