Finally Acquired My First Red MT
« on: March 13, 2014, 01:19:13 PM »
Like a dog looking out the window just begging to be taken outside, I took her out to the deck for a few minutes to take in some fresh Spring air.  When I joined this forum last fall, I was welcomed by many of you.  I had mentioned that I've been looking for a red MT to add to my little collection.  A few days later, a PM showed up in my inbox from G (Stu) informing me that he had 2 red MT that he is looking to sell to offset a recent acquisition.  I asked and G sent me some pictures of the 2 beautiful kettles.  A few emails & a couple weeks later, I drove up to meet G to look at the kettles.  G and I exchanged pleasantries and he kindly showed me his nice collection of kettles.  After admiring his collection, I drove away with this mint red MT.  It's been boxed up in the basement and I was just waiting for Spring to arrive before I would assemble her and put her out on the deck.  I couldn't wait for Spring anymore so I took her out for a brief moment today.  I can't wait to fire up the MT.

Thanks G (Stu) for the hookup on the MT.  Did I tell you that I love this forum?  You guys have been awesome and I've learned so much since joining.

I have thought I had the finest red Mt around.  Not even close.  Looks great, crumb!

Yes, it was practically new IMO. It's an EI vent code BTW. Only blemish was a inch long chip of the red porcelain on the rim of the lid. Stu is a class act because he installed a new 7409 ash sweeper, new charcoal grate, 7403 charcoal basket and A couple of Brian's handles. Stu was going to include a new Weber gourmet grill grate too, but I already had a couple from the recent C&B clearance so we negotiated that out of the price.  Hell, I think the wheels, legs and triangle are new too cus they look so clean, LOL. Stu even had his copper pipe insert mod done to the legs already so they are rock solid.

Man, I would love to drive up to see that 26" ranch he built recently.

This is the only blemish I can see on this red MT, about an inch long chip. I imagine the original owner probably banged the lid against the lid bale support bar as s/he went to slide the lid into the bale.

It must be spring....Crumb broke out the red MT.  Glad you like it...that one was as close to new as Ive seen.  Hopefully you can document a few cooks on it.

That is beautiful and I love the pics inside the house.

It's like artwork.

Put some lighting in the right spots and leave it there as a conversation piece during winter.

Or would that be like salt in a wound that you couldn't cook on it?

You bet I'll be cooking on it. Just waiting for all the snow to melt off the deck before I leave it out for the spring & summer season.
