1977 Page is live!
« on: April 28, 2015, 06:59:52 AM »
We have been working on breaking down the 18.5/22.5/26.75 kettle features and changes year by year and we finally have a year launched on the main page. Many, MANY more to come. I have already broken down every year from 1952-2015. We are in the process of formatting the other years before launching the pages. As promised, there WILL be a new written version of the history page soon. I'm behind, but we're getting closer!

That's awesome! Now I'm that much closer to finding a "me" vintage grill. Can't wait for the rest of the years so that I can narrow down a 70's red and 60's black I have that are my only non-date coded grills.

Great job Craig. The Chocolate kettle I used for the e-cook last year was also a 76/77. Definitely a classic, and my favorite vent style. These pages will be a veritable Weber  Wikettlepedia

So awesome.  Did I miss the ash pan specification for 1976-1977 in your write up?

"The modern Weber wheel. 6″ in diameter. Found on Weber charcoal kettles 1977 and newer."

The 18.5" my dad bought new has those too, with a Bar-B-Kettle, not Weber, lid vent. Maybe just the 18s were called Bar-B-Kettle?
It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch

The wheels though in place BY 1977, date back a year or so. Some of the very last BBQK kettles 18 and 22 had the current wheel style. However there are a couple '76-77 vent kettles with overlap of the old style wheels. Weird huh?

Ash catcher info has been added. Thank you for the correction. We hope with this year-by-year breakdown, it will help us pinpoint the characteristics and changes with each year of kettle. Especially pre 1979.

This is great information as I was going to try and find a kettle from 77 as that is the year my wife was born.
