Technical Reference: Grilling grates
« on: March 10, 2014, 04:18:33 PM »
Would like to start a thread about the various cooking grates and cooking grate accessories made by both Weber, as well as aftermarket grates sold to be used on the Weber.  This information would be useful to have in the reference library.  Please limit posts and replies to the subject matter and use PMs, or start a separate thread if you want to discuss information outside of the subject matter.  Include model numbers and manufacturers where possible so that others will know where to source.

Thanks,

Winz

Here a a searing grate that came with a ss performer that I purchased off craigslist.  Not sure if it is made by Weber.  The center of the grate is cast iron in a rectangle pattern and is removable.  The sides of the grate hinge upward to enable the addition of fuel while cooking.  The cradle for the cast iron is recessed so that the cast iron bars sit level with the remainder of the grate:

With the hinged "wings" up:

With the searing grate removed:

I believe these are the part numbers for "standard" cooking grates from Weber:

Weber 7431 = Smokey Joe nickel no hinge

Weber 7432 = 18.5 nickel grate, no hinge
Weber 7433 = 18.5 nickel grate, hinged

Weber 7435 = 22.5 nickel grate, no hinge
Weber 7436 = 22.5 hinged nickel grate
Weber 3070784 = 22.5 stainless steel hinged grate
Weber 8835 = 22.5 nickel “Gourmet” hinged grate with removable round center

Weber 63039 = 26.75 stainless steel hinged grate

Winz, your steel grate with large rectangular cast iron insert is definitely a Weber product. Ramsfan & I each have one new in box. Ours came with a smooth cast iron griddle insert, but they were available from Weber with either the cast iron grate or griddle. Since then we have both sourced the CI grate inserts just like yours (it is readily available because the part is shared with several older gassers).

Weber kettle grill with cast iron and griddle insert

Vintage weber full griddle

Well, I went back and got the griddle. Couldn't resist and picked up two more NIB wooden side tables and two of the old style tool holders. It was all retail, but these are some cool items that are NLA. I am sure I will visit the place when I need a grate or cover. I like to support these small shops.

Will have to get some pointers from Brian.

Can we get some pictures of the:

Lodge Grill n' Sear Half moon grates
Craycort inserts for all kettle sizes
Weber gourmet grate,
Thick Stainless non-hinged grates
Vintage grates with the giant hinged portion
#3200 warming rack
Half Moon elevated rack

Thank you!
