Snowy Salmon - pic heavy
« on: January 21, 2014, 05:27:22 PM »
Had to let Zavod know there's going to be a lot of photos ahead.  :)

Living in the DC metro area, snow is a pretty big deal.  And a pain in the ass.  I spent the first 23 years growing up in Northern WI, but much prefer the past 13 winters living in VA.  While the ~6" of snow pretty much shut down this entire area, I wanted some fishy from the grill.

With Bman's Gadial Ganing kickin' ass since I built it in May, I wasn't too worried about ol' man winter.

But when I opened the patio door, I was greeted with this view.   >:(

Even my chimney-fire-upper had to get cleaned off.

First time firing up the Blue MT since I picked it up

The wind was a killer trying to get this chimney started

Moved the chimney to the kettle as a wind block

That's better

Now, we're ready

Olive oil, pepper, and Himalayan pink salt on these guys.

Salmon fillet with EVOO and this seasoning - that's it.

Everybody in the pool.  Put a couple of sweet taters on earlier with a chunck of hickory (which is engulfed in flames right now)

Love how the charcoal, all banked on the left side, melted the snow

Done

Wifey added brown sugar to her tater, but I like em' as is.

And just because the grill was still hot....  Couple of pork tenderloins smoked/cooked indirect while we had dinner.
Afterwards, moved direct for a quick sear and this will make leftovers for a couple of days.

That was fun, but I'm ready for spring.  Weird part - it was mid 50's yesterday...
I've always had gas...  And now a bunch of kettles because of this place.  Thanks!

Looks great! I did a couple portobellos tonight but didn't get pix. It was about 3°F and I just wanted to "get 'r done" and eat.

Bman - love that blue MT!  That was an excellent cook to break it in.  The Salmon looked perfect.

I suggest you fire up the rest of your Webers to melt the remaining snow on your patio.
In an ongoing relationship with a kettle named Bisbee.

Love this post.  You can see just how windy it was when you tried to light the chimney with the smoke and flame underneath going sideways.  Food looked perfect.  I agree with Winz...fire all the grills up and clean the patio!
Kettle collector AND cooker!

i love how the radiant heat melted the snow.

that used to be my favorite thing about winter.
there were times i went out and lit charcoal or simply used far to much charcoal when cooking just so i could move the grill around and melt different areas of the patio.
