Customizing 22" OTG
« on: August 01, 2013, 07:32:30 AM »
Morning all,
I decided that I would take my morning cup of coffee on the back porch today and sat down in front of my new Black     OTG. It got me thinking. This grill, while a real looker, is no different than all her sisters of the same age. Why not make some mods? After my second cup I still couldn't come up with any reasons not to. I'm not thinking anything major just enough to make her stand above the rest. I'm thinking of painting the ash catcher system and possible a few other small but significant areas. How do you guys, the purists if you will, feel about something like this?
(Oh by the way I'm probably still gonna do it even if you all blast me for it. So there)

Well, we are not talking about a rare specimen here so I say... Go For It!

I had the same urge one day this summer and painted my ash catcher and triangle black, as I think it makes my blue OTG look a bit better.  If only I could get some extra black handles like they put on my copper top. But then again, I am far from a purist.

I'm preparing to rat rod one of my older well used grills too. I say go for it. Duke has been an inspiration for me with some of his creations. Ultimately it's all in the eye and mind of the beholder.

Anything you want done can easily be reversed.  But please don't drill holes in a vintage grill..  8)

It's not vintage. No way could I screw with one of those. I would feel like that woman tried to touch up the Jesus fresco in Spain.
But I digress. It is a 2013 model so I feel fine tweaking it some. Pics to come soon. (Assuming it looks good)

I've always had gas...  And now a bunch of kettles because of this place.  Thanks!

I have a question for the refurb guys. Want to remove the wheels to do something to the triangle (not sure exactly what yet) how can I remove them without destroying the caps?
