Lid Bail For 18" Kettle?

I picked up an old junker Performer Deluxe (not a gen 1 ss) for free the other day.
Not worth restoring so I'm just going to rob parts off it.
It's got the older-style lid bale that doesn't get the lid vertical enough,
and I'm wondering how it would work if I installed it onto my 18" kettle.
Anyone done this?

Good question...following

A cheaper, less invasive solution may be the slide aside attachment.

I've wanted to do this for a while. Just haven't had the time. My plan was to source a NIB 18.5 off of offerup, drill the holes and send it to IPE to become either a 'cado or a glen blue. I already have an old-style lid bail and the one-touch ring and ash catcher for the 18.5. Here's a couple of old WKC threads I bookmarked on the subject:

Obviously, if you luck into a used 18.5 performer, you're all set!

The above links are all excellent.
@DrewZ always does some fine work, I must say.

However, I do recall Lawrence ( @pbe gummi bear ) posting about his rendition 9 years ago.
It was outstanding!

Sadly, the pictures are no longer on the link.  :(
Perhaps he can re-post them.

Q: How do you know something is bull$h!t?
A: When you are not allowed to question it.

Wouldn't be cheaper since I already own the bail, which I got for free.
Not sure what you mean by less invasive other that drilling holes, which is no big deal to me.
Even if I destroyed the 18" kettle it wouldn't be that big of a deal
since they can be found used on FB Marketplace all day long for $20.
I'm just wondering if anybody else has done it.
I'd already have tried it except it's been raining a lot lately
and I haven't been motivated to do any grill-related stuff.

Thanks for posting that!
I think I'm just gonna go for it.
Worst case scenario I trash my 18 and get another one.
Around here they can be found all day
long on Facebook Marketplace for $20.
