Grillfella Confessions

I only cook for me. My family (wife and kids) want nothing to do with my cooking on kettles. The folks at work love my food, so I bring it to them.

I sporadically rotate my kettles to keep them for getting neglected.

I find it therapeutic and rewarding cleaning kettles.

I feel I am only appreciated at my job. I have no immediate family around me (except the wife and kids, but they are into themselves) because they are all on the east coast and maybe a couple of every once in while friends around me.  Otherwise, I am alone with my VW and my kettles. They bring me joy.

Edit: I have never smoked a pork butt, turkey, and everytime I have smoked pork ribs, I didn’t like them. Beef ribs smoked are good.

I spend more time looking for kettles than cooking on kettles.  @Mike in Roseville has saved my ass a few times for guiding me through cooks (thanks in advance for the next you save it). I only bought 2 bags of Weber @ 3.90 since I had a gift card at lowes (stocked up on Stubbs).

I just bought several hundred pounds of charcoal....

Normal for this crowd but it did get some strange looks.

I have never cooked on a propane grill.

I have never cleaned my main cooker besides the cooking grate.

Sometimes I "make" the coals take longer to get ready so I can drink more beer.

My only gas grill, an never-used Weber Q I paid $20 for, I have never used.

I have not cooked a brisket yet.

I don't cover my grills.

I throw away any unburned charcoal after a cook (I know some people re-use it)

I don't clean my kettles as often as I should.

I have a red SSP and two red limited editions.  I also have protanopia type colourblindness.

That's probably more irony right there than even a downtown Toronto plaid-wearing, douchebag condo-dwelling, bearded hipster can handle.

I have two 1970s 26" grills.  I have not put either back together after picking up, not I haven't cleaned either of them.

I bought a Pizza Q well over a year ago, but still wind up cooking pizzas in my toaster oven because it is so much easier.  Haven't even used the Pizza Q yet.

I never cover my grills

I use a poortex a lot

I let my ash catcher get so full that it spills out everywhere when I have no option but to empty it.

Sometimes I'll use starter fluid to light up coals, just because I like the smell and the flames.
