I can't believe your timing on this thread Marty. Two days ago, I just took delivery of this vintage Woodard Sulptura set of 4 chairs and table.
HISTORICAL FACTS:
The Sculputa line was introduced by Woodard in 1956. They were the first company to construct a sculpted chair without using expensive molds. In 1994, the Sculptura chair was added to the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum’s permanent collection. Somewhere along the line, Woodard discontinued the Sculptura line. In 2015, in response to the resurgence of mid-century modern furnishings, Woodard revived the iconic Sculptura collection and still produces the chairs today. Cost of a new Sculptura chair today is $750 (per chair).
In keeping with the Weber and Woodard theme, pork meatballs smoked on the yellow tonight.
This particular set came from the Redstone Castle in Colorado. It was built in 1897 and has hosted a Rockefeller and a Roosevelt. According to the Redstone Castle caretaker, this set is somewhere between 40 to 50 years old.
This photo shows 3 of the chairs from my set in the interior courtyard of the castle.
I plan on having this set sandblasted and powder coated, probably in white to match my Woodard Chariot.
