SS Cooking Grate for the 22"
« on: April 29, 2016, 03:13:28 PM »
I'm looking for feedback from those that have a stainless steel cooking grate in their 22.

Do these grates remain rust free 100% of the time?

I'm thinking it might be a good investment, but wanted to hear the collective thoughts here first.

I've heard positive things about them but have never been sure when they have been available. Got a part # Jason?

Part #80728

I called Weber CS today and they do indeed have them. I was quoted just under $75 shipped.

I bought a bunch of these a few years back and zero rust so far. Even after I have left them soaking in a water heater pan with soapy water for several days at a time to clean. I use my performer with one of these SS grates about three to four nights per week with zero signs of wear and never have to worry about it, so I highly recommend these despite the high price. I just wish the gourmet grate for the 22 came in stainless like the new Charcoal Summit! I use my Gourmet Grate for the accessories and leave my SS grate out in the elements with no rust.

@Kettle Karl  Aside from them being stainless steel, are they constructed the same as the standard hinged grates?

Thanks for the feed back guys!

Or are they thicker like the GBS grate?

The stainless steel grates appear to be constructed of the same gauge steel as the standard hinged grates. The SS grates are not like the heavy gauge metal on the gourmet grates, but since they are SS they are pretty rigid.

Thanks for posting this topic Jason.  I had no idea that stainless steel grates were available for the kettle. I tried finding them on the Weber parts site to no avail.  Thank goodness you posted the part number.  The Weber representative was having problems locating them in her database.  I ordered mine today.  $72 delivered to California and no tax.
