Christmas Day Breaky on the Ranch
« on: December 25, 2015, 09:57:56 PM »
Today we hosted Christmas breakfast for one side of the family and needed to cook up 3 packs of bacon and two packs of sausages. In other words, I had the perfect excuse to fire up the ranch 8) ... or so I thought!

It was quite cold hovering right around freezing...

These droplets are all frozen solid:

Time to get this party started!

51' settling in nicely...

Mmmmm Meat.

Stealth technology at it's finest ;)

Sorry not many action shots as once things got rolling I was running around like a mad man...

Even a nice little flare up for the dramatic final shot 8)

Hindsight being 20/20 I probably should have fired up 2 smaller grills for this task. Since I had to keep the lid off to tend to the bacon the charcoal just ran like a freight train and was rocking some pretty hot temps. Thankfully things all came together in the end and we enjoyed an awesome breakfast. Hopefully the neighbors didn't see me frantically running around the back patio in pajama's ;D

Happy Holidays All!

If you had, we wouldn't have seen your cool Ranch. And it is nice.

Oh they probably did....and got a little chuckle to themselves. Love that charcoal basket....holy crap. You gotta do a whole pig on that baby at some point.

That basket is awesome. Did you really need that much charcoal for this cook? It seems like the temps would skyrocket with that much lit.

Oh mylanta.
That's like a charcoal casket,  not a basket.

Absolutely not - I'm a fool :)

I'm a planner and this ranch idea was a last minute switch... since I was still in half-asleep Christmas morning mode I just went back to the tried and true setup I used for other cooks not really even thinking about the fact that I would be lidless for most of the cook. A much better plan would have been to spread a thin layer across the whole charcoal grate so that I could maintain a more stable and lower temperature with or without the lid on.
