Hooray my warrior gasser arrived today. Had to sneak it past management and it needs a good clean but what can I say it's a pretty cool grill and totally different to the last one I picked up. Looks like those parts you sent me Brian are going to come in real handy
Here's some pics

No vents on lid at all, double rivet handle and lid measures 24 inches across also the lip on the lid is 1 inch as opposed to 1/2 inch on a standard kettle lid


Note the 3 brackets on the inside of the lid there similar to the brackets on the old woks


The charcoal grate has a some extra rods welded to the bottom of it


There's only 1 hole in the bowl which is for the grease to drip out of into the grease cup which came with it as well. So there was no igniter with this model

The base is totally different as well its made out of 2 x 1/4 inch plate steel and the wheels are bolted on because the gas bottle holder is in the way of where the axle would normally go

There's also differences to gas setup inside the bowl but I won't bore you with those details
So how old would this one be? Its got to be older than the other one seeing it has the metal bowl handles and the double rivet handle. There is a serial number on the stand which is G40193 but the serial number on the other one I have is G67360 so I don't think  G is the date stamp
I'd love to get the owners manual on this to work it all out

Really interesting.  At this point you guys are the gas kettle experts.  Lots of interesting features.  It must be older than 1981 if it's got the two rivet handle...

Hey, that thing si pretty cool. Old school for sure. Should polish up nice..
That grate looks heavy duty. Probably to handle the heat. Its similiar to a 26 charcoal grate.
Can't wait to see it all dressed up.

What a find! There are lots of unique features to your gas kettle.  It almost seems no two are exactly alike.  I have 3 gas kettles, some share similar features with yours. 

I heard that the "G" stood for gas at first, but don't quote me. Weber's time line has the gas kettles coming out in 1971.  I think the letter date coding started in 1979.  It looks like the vented lids were added after 1980 as a running change.  The non vented lid gas kettle I have does have the extra support under the lava rock grate.  The vented lid gas kettle does not have the extra support.  The non vented lids and extra supported lava grate make it older.  Also one hole for the greese makes it older.  But how old I don't know.

I have never seen a stand/base like the one you have, different. 

I have an owners manual from 1979, and a parts list from 1983.  I posted the parts list eariler in this thread.  I will get the manual up when I can.

What a Webertastic day. Firstly the kettle arrived then late this afternoon the courier turned up with the parts from Brian. Thanks a lot Brian, each part was individually wrapped and I can tell you put a bit of effort into putting the parcel together not to mention sourcing the parts
Can't wait to restore the old warrior
And Ed thanks for the info on the gasser, makes it seem like even more of a find

Hogsy, there is alot I don't know about the gas kettles.  Here is some information  and some educated guesses. 

1979 owner manual,has the reinforced lava grates, 1" lid lip, thick tank brace

1973 Weber catalog, the gas kettle was not in it, but is hidden on the cover.  Why does Weber time line have the gas kettle at 1971, when it is not in the 72 or 73 catalogs.

Maybe the lid vents took the place of the lid brackets.  The post/base were different for natural gas, LP, and permanent mount.  I don't know when the second hole was added in the bowl. 

It looks like the 1979 and older gas kettles have no vents in the lid and only one hole for the greese dripping.  1980 and newer gas kettles had lid vents and started to have a second hole for ignition. 

Is there any other bits of information out there to put this all together?

Could you take a pic of the other side of the page of the 79 Manual. I'd love to see the description of the parts of the kettle.
Also is there any info on how to light the BBQ in the 79 manual?
Is your gas kettle a brownie too?
I wonder how many colors they did in this model

I will send more pics of the 79 manual and find lighting instructions. 

I have 3, 1 pre 79 in black, 2 post 79 one black and one brown.  I have seen a red gas kettle before, so there is at least 3 colors. 

I will list the serial numbers I have, maybe we can crack the date code on the gassers prior to the 1979 date code stamps.
