‘69 Statesman Wheel Restoration
« on: November 01, 2022, 12:26:56 PM »
Pretty happy with the outcome.  I’m now a believer in EvapoRust.  3 day bath, rinse, scrub and one week dry, dremel soft metal brush wheel treatment, prime, paint, 48 hours to dry and whitewalls on today.

Wow, you did a beautiful job on those wheels!

What's next, legs and triangle?

Thanks guys, did the triangle this past weekend and the legs last week.  Need to get some aluminum polishing supplies at harbor freight to do the daisy wheels and finish the handle resto with tung oil and I should be finished.

Those turned out great! The rubber tread even looks pretty good. You will have another great looking Weber when you are done.

Seeking a Black Sequoia I know I know, I'd settle for just the tabbed no leg grill

Thanks all..... I was fretting over hand painting the white walls so here's what I did.  I found a jar lid that is the size of the inside hub (part of the wheel to remain black).  On a glass tabletop I taped 3 rows of wide masking tape that would be wide enough for the lid, traced around the lid with an exacto knife to get a perfect circle to cover the inside hub of the wheel.  The most difficult part was positioning the circle of masking tape on the wheel.  It's not perfect, but at least the lines are clean at the white/black transition.

Looks great Greg, I’m looking forward to the completed RRR.
I have set of steel wheels that need refinished. One of these days I’ll get them done. Now maybe if I stopped going to Paddy’s three days a week, I’d get them finished.

Cheers

Yeah, well you're a busy guy and you'll get around to it.  Going to Paddy's sounds wonderful - I didn't get any crab dip this last trip and I miss it!  Enjoy your weekend bud.....
