I don't do Brats (pre se) that often.  Usually I cooking Italian Sausage (Dad's side) or Kielbasa (Mom's side).  I mostly cook them indirect with the ole SnS while I'm cooking other things, like ribs.



Then just throw 'em on the hot side for a minute or 2, to get a little crust on 'em.
