Update 12/27

So I ordered initially,  waited for the shipping confirmation and once I got it I placed another order.  The first order came in with three Grates,  the second order initially came in a box with one Grate and today two more came fulfilling the order.  Total out of picket $40. For six hinged 22.5 Weber grates.

Update 12/26/16

Got back from Christmas travel and the second shipment I ordered only had one in the box.  Ugh. So It still says for three it's $19.99 on the website (I just captured another screenshot) but it seems with everyone jumping on the deal they probably can't or won't honor it.  If you don't need a hinged grate you may want to cancel if yours hasn't shipped.


The option for one or three are the same at $19.99
Read the reviews and buyer beware but I'm taking a shot.

I've got a shipping confirmation.  So I'm guessing the box has three.  It says it shipped three. 
I'll do a report once they come in.

Many reviewers said that they're not stainless.

I'm taking a shot on them.  At $7 a pop I'll take the risk.  The standard Weber hinged grate isn't stainless either.

It's says bright nickel plated.. is that the same as stainless. Sorry if it's a dumb question. Someone make it clear please thanks

No it's not. These grates are regular steel plated with nickel. Stainless steel is a totally different material. Stainless Steel typically has a lot of chromium in the alloy mix.

When they arrive stick a magnet to them. A magnet won't stick to stainless.

Here are side by side comparisons of a Weber SS (Stainless Steel) grate and a Weber GBS (Gourmet System Grate).  The GBS is the top grate (bright and shiny - nickle plated) and the SS is the bottom grate (dull, non-reflective sheen).  Hope this helps.  BTW, not a dumb question at all. I could not tell the difference until I put the two together.

Yes it will, It all depends if the the stainless steel is ferritic or austentitic.

There are some versions of stainless steel used to make grates that will be magnetic, or slightly magnetic, so that test alone can't verify what the grates are made of.

A good stainless steel grate is worth a dozen plated grates. The SS lasts and lasts. The plated grates go downhill with rust and erosion as soon as the plating wears off.

I was speaking in a generalization. Austenite is a nonmagnetic form of iron. Most of the 200 and 300 series stainless steels are austentic which will be nonmagnetic. Ferritic steels are iron-chromium steels and even though they can be stainless they are magnetic and generally used for different applications. Usually 300 series is for food grade applications like grates and cookware.

Easier than stalking Target in September!

This conversation got very sciencey.

Perhaps I'm just being suspicious after reading the reviews, and seeing the price for one grill is 19.99, two is 76.27, and three is 19.99. The option for two is the only one that sounds plausible for a decent stainless grill. What if the other two options are to unload their stock of cheap plated grills that are mentioned several times in the reviews?

On the other hand, if it works out for you fellas, good enough.

7436 is plated not stainless. 

Price is great if they are actually Weber and ship.

I just ordered some from Amazon which sent me a message that they have been shipped.  I guess I should be getting 3 new grates made of steel perhaps stainless.  8)

My guess is that they are 7436 Weber grates that were returns or something when reading the seller profile-

"Albany Tool Co. is a new company located in Albany, NY. We are a trading orientated company that revolves around buying cheap from stores like Home Depot, Amazon.com, eBay.com and such selling platform and reselling at discounted prices!"

So where they said stainless I don't think that is the case at all because if I'm right it's the 7436 Weber Hinged Grate.

I'm willing to take a shot for under $7 each.   If they are somehow not that and are inferior (which I doubt to be the case) I'll have 3 shiny grates that will go on Kettles that get flipped when I need to thin the herd.  Being able to take photos with new shiny grates for a Craigslist ad will more than likely return more than the $7 investment.

I've never used a gourmet grate but always suspected the center section would be more of an annoyance on most of my cooks.  This confirms that.  I still might get one at some point for use with a wok or doing chicken wings.  Although I will now have 4 sacrificial standard grates to work with.

Anyone have any ideas on what to do with all these left over standard grates a lot of us are going to have now?

@HoosierKettle , I recommend making some elevated grates, or half grates.
An angle grinder with a cut-off wheel ... some nuts and bolts.  Or, weld some legs on if you can.
I hope to do-up some in the spring maybe.  Have lots of extra grates around from all of the passed rescues.

I love the GGS with the iron sear grate, for the wok, and for wings with my home-made vortex (a cut-down WSM charcoal ring) in the center. Nothing better for things like that. For everything else, I'll stick to the standard flip-grate.

Love the thickness of the GBS for searing steaks.

Yeah, I ordered 3 too. We'll see, If they don't put a stop to the deal. Thought about making a short stacker ring with a couple of hinged grates. By spinning the grates one could work smaller items and the coal basket/s through the flip ups.

Guys, I ordered a second shipment of 3 and they only shipped 1.  I'm thinking with everyone pounding the deal someone caught on.

It's still listed on their page from the screenshot I just took as 3 for $19.99 so I'm not sure what Amazon will do but if you don't need the grate you may want to try to cancel.

Update to the update!

I just got a UPS Shipping confirmation that I have another package that is scheduled to arrive tomorrow with a weight of 16.1 pounds that has arrived in Massachusetts .  This company could be so messed up with their inventory that they might just be shipping it out.  CRAAAAZY.  If this is teh case then I would have got 7  hinged grates for $40.  Fingers crossed!

For those co for those that are concerned when we're home ncerrned that this is a pricing error, take note of the fact that the QTY 1 option at $19.99 is directly from Amazon, not Albany Tool. Likewise the crazy 2 unit price is from yet a different seller. If Albany Tool is buying these on close out from HD, Lowes and whatnot for $3-$4 they're still turning a profit.

Same. Just got my shipping confirmation with the same weight. I'd order more but not sure what I would do with all of them lol. I'm not near salt water and I have never had to replace a cooking grate yet.

The grass green and red brick Performers both have grates in good shape. The two blue SSPs could use new ones. The Red MBH and Simpsons will get a new one and then I think I'll hold onto two for future scores!

I just got an email from Albany tools saying they don't have any more of the grates. This is after is Ordered them 5 days ago. It said 13 left when I ordered. I can't stand sellers who can't keep up with their crap. I won't ever buy from the m again.

Still keeping my fingers crossed, UPS says that my order will be delivered Thursday. 15.99 Lbs, sounds like 3!

The grates arrived one day later than they were supposed to and I wasn't home. Wife comes home, sees the box, and brings it inside. This conversation actually happened. The box is still sealed.

Gummi: But they were cheap! I'll use them for projects, flip our used old grates when I sell grills on CL.  8)

Mrs. Gummi:We never need new grates.  >:(

Gummi: Yeah, that's because I sell kettles on CL with our old grates.

Mrs. Gummi: (thinks and stares)  ???  How many grates did you buy?

Gummi: Uhhhhh....  :-X  :-*

Mrs. Gummi: That box is definitely heavier than one grate.....   ::)

Mrs. Gummi: It's heavier than our cast iron grates?? ???

Gummi:  :-[ I bought 6......

Mrs. Gummi: I knew it was more than one!  :o

I'm surprised you weren't a little quicker on your feet being a veteran of the game.

"Honey,  at $6.33 per Grate the Return on Investment is going to be at least triple. "  When I can advertise a so-so kettle with" Brand new grate" on my CL ad I'll more than triple my return or at very least be able to move a grill that otherwise might not be movable.

That's awesome!  I think everyone on here can relate.  I went with "the old grates are starting to rust and it's dangerous for people to eat on them."   Just thinking of your parents and the kids.
