So I have 6 kettles but none have really great stories behind them. This is the closest I've got to a great story. Well anyways, woke up this morning, wife and kids were on a shopping trip a few hours away. Did my usual morning ritual looked at Wkc forum, eBay, then Craigslist search for webers, and an estate sale pops up. Huh, looked through the ad, oh gas weber grill. Emailed the lister about the potential for any kettles on the property, told him I collected them. Received this response....
Decided to go anyways, planned on smoking a pork butt a bit later but I had some time to kill, and it was only 20 min from my home. Pulled in the drive walked into the storage shed. Saw an older guy holding a newer weber chimney. Surely there's a kettle around here right? This is what I found....
I asked the old man how much he wanted for it. Five dollars was his reply.

Gave it a quick cleanup when I got home. I know it's not a grail, but man 5 dollars! I'm giddy about it. Here it is cleaned. This thing must have only been used a few times. Thanks for looking.

Gorgeous....love those handles.
"Why do you have so many bbq's?"....."I just like lookin' at em' sometimes....and I have enough purses and shoes"

MacEggs

That's awesome!

I had a feeling that under all that dust was some beautiful black.  Must have been stored indoors for sure considering it's age and condition of handles.

I suggest some 0000 steel wool on those handles, then a couple three coats of tung oil to help preserve them.  Those look real nice.
Q: How do you know something is bull$h!t?
A: When you are not allowed to question it.

Nice score, congrats.  Who cares if it's not a grail, it was only $5 and now it'll get used instead of collecting dust.  Well done.

That's awesome, I would have let it go at gasser, like Matt said way to sniff it out!

You can easily tell that kettle had been kept covered for years   ...covered in dust that is. (J/K)  Very nice!
This is the original Weber kettle. The most powerful bbq grill in the world and can blow your taste-buds clean off! So, you have to ask yourself one question: "Do you feel hungry? Well, do you punk?"

weldboy

I'm pretty sure the previous owner cooked on it a few times and parked it in the building where I found it, looked like it hadn't moved in a few decades

A bunch of black kettles
