Yesterday I convinced a friend to snag a EI two-tone red OTS off of craigslist.
We drove to newport beach over lunch break to pick it up. It's in incredible shape, the only chip i noticed is on the bottom around one of the leg sockets.

All 3 wooden handles are in really good shape as well.
The new owner is planning on upgrading it to the OTG style ash catcher, possibly even going full mastertouch with a thermometer and lid bail.
At 43 bucks, it was a great deal.

Maybe we can all rally together, show our support, and get Chris to join up and share some pictures!!

shit. i didn't think about that.
I have a lid bail system (i think it's complete) that I was going to give him - but I don't know if i'd recommend cutting off a handle.

Cant you just mount it 90deg in between the handles? It might JUST fit. The lid bale doesnt go the full 180 deg.

It fits doing it that way, but (IMO!) is very lame.  I had considered that very thing but was talked out of it.

also, one of the welds on the top lid seems loose to me. there's some visible gap between the handle's strap and the lid - but there's no porcelain chipped.

is there anything that can be done to prevent that weld from popping off? (preferably without drilling)

troy, I would leave that top weld. If you really wanted maybe you can seal it off with some kind of JB weld or epoxy but it may look terrible and even accelerate the rust formation by holding in moisture. It takes ALOT of force to break those spot welds. Ask me how I know......

I agree it's not ideal but kinda the best of both worlds. I think the slide aside looks lamer, even if it is more functional according to some.

I'm excited, looking to do a good resto. Will take pics. New to charcoal and can't wait to get going. So much to learn. Like how to install the legs properly...

Set the lid & grates aside, turn bowl upside down, gently twist out the legs, line up the handle (either one) with the front leg, having the the back legs then set in first (gentle twisting, do not rock back & forth) find the small hole on the front leg & hook that little bent knuckle looking thing on the front of the wheel triangle into the hole ( the very end of it should end up pointing DOWN )
.....then gently twist in the front leg......all this sounds much more complex than it really is......
