Well I bagged a mint unused 47(18.5) red bowl from Facebook, coupled well with a near mint H code red lid that I had in the loft, she's almost there, waiting on sweeper blades!

Then with the old bowl and another lid I had (G)- which are both owning a few blemishes but perfectly acceptable - thought I'd add the HC ash catcher and cut the legs down, for a perfectly useable jumbo joe.

I know someone with a lid wire holder off a jumbo joe... need to decide wether to fit it, not sure if I wanna drill the bowl.. though it does make a hell of a difference with the SJ... opinions welcome!

Loft shot... just 'coz!

Incredible! Personally I wouldn't drill holes in a vintage kettle, especially one as pristine as yours.

That being said, I'm very intrigued by the idea of using a Jumbo Joe lid bale.

watkinsb87 yeah you are right and I've decided not to, I'm holding out for a 47slide a side instead!

That's a beautiful red 18.

Those are very nice!  I like the JJ idea but I'd also have a hard time drilling that beautiful red bowl.

Can I assume the bowl has 2 handles?
In my opinion, a lid bale looks odd / weird on a bowl with 2 handles.

That seems like a better idea, however, I am not sure if they were made for a 47cm/18" kettle.
Maybe I am wrong. Never seen one in person. @Tommie

Yeah, 2 handles, I'm not going to do it, would have to cut a handle off and that's a no no! That lid bale on the photo is actually for a 47, I believe it was only released on the one with red wheels! Much more subtle than the 22's one!

I drilled into this 22" redhead of mine.
Had a lid bale in the boneyard. Only one handle on the bowl.
And 3 daisy wheels instead of the One-Touch system.
A few other minor mods as you can see...

Looks Great, I love a MT lid bale. I'm definitely a modder myself and that's a needed mod imo only reason I haven't pulled the plug on the red is the 2 handles, but I may get bored one day and do it anyway lol

I just finished this up. Love the lid bale on this target clearance new 18".   Tough call on that beautiful red.  Definitely makes moving the grill around hot a breeze
