Well... now I wanna add short legs, triangle and wheels again haha, that looks sweet! Only reason I didn't really was I wasn't sure the triangle would work so close to the ash bowl but clearly it does. Did you add another set of wheels for stability? Wonder if it's stable enough with just one set

Ps nolch01 your pic reminded me... my wife asked "so how come you cut the legs down to make it shorter only to put it on our nice garden table to raise it up?" I didn't really have an answer for her

My friend lent me the 18" lid bale, things cool, nice and subtle, no need to ever remove it really! He lent me it so I can copy it and make my own outta some stainless steel rod. Will update with pics incase anyone else wants to

The lid bale and keeper bar on mine is from a 18" original Jumbo Joe Platinum or Outrider.

The part # for the wire lid lock is 86824 and the lid lock support is #86821.  I got them 4+ yrs ago so I don't know if they are still available.   I like the one you have n the PICTs. It is similar to the Weber slide-aside #8411 but shorter profile.

The 2 handles help with moving it around hot so really no need to go the route I did and replicate a SJ or JJ.

Thanks for that! I do really want to do the jumbo Joe wire and bale but I just don't wanna commit to cutting a handle off the back just yet! Yeah, I have the slide aside, while it works great on the 57 it looked a bit overpowering on the shorty!

Made the lid bale. Used 5mm rod and stainless 1mm "tape" for the hangers

Would love to do a how to but would be impossible without the donor part!

Shaved the top by the hangers a little narrower and pinched them around, she's solid

Works well

That is awesome looking!   It seems very practical for this chopped build that allows for both handles and the ability to just lift it off when transporting it in storage.

Was the original/donor a Weber original item?   Was it 18" specific?  Do you know a Weber part #?

It's off a euro model with red wheels, really weird how they only seemed to supply it with that, it's such a good idea! I'm afraid I borrowed it off a friend who got the grill second hand so he doesn't have any paperwork, I can't seem to find info on it online either other than the pic I sent further up this thread!

If it helps I'll rake some pics against a tape measure and you can try making it?

The US slide a side is definitely a different profile and I believe works in the 18 or the 22.  I have one so I am familiar with that version.   I do not need dim's but it may be helpful for others.

Grate work!
