Replacing One-Touch Cleaning System on 1988 Kettle Advice
« on: August 27, 2020, 09:22:18 AM »
I recently restored (with help of this site) my dad's 1988 Red Weber Kettle. After a couple uses I realized that I need to replace the one touch cleaning system. The system is rusted and the screw that seemed to hold the handle in place has snapped off at the nut. I ordered a new cleaning system.

- Does anyone have advice for removing the original cleaning system? See attached pics.

- Will the new cleaning system work with the grill? I noticed that they have a different attachment system.

The new one touch system will work in your grill.

If you have Dremel with a cutoff wheel, the easiest way it to cut the control rod off on both sides of the bolt coming out of the bottom off the kettle.  You’ll need to cut as close to the bolt as possible.   Cut where I’ve circled.

The bolt and blades should fall out.   You might need to tap the bolt carefully to get it to fall through.

As a follow up, I was able to remove it. A good spray of WD-40 was also useful.
