My first thumbscrew
« on: September 03, 2019, 04:34:08 PM »
So a little over 20 months ago, at the beginning of my collecting MBH, I found a kettle at an estate sale in San Diego. I reached out to @Jason who I give a BIG THANKS to for making this happen. @Rub was looking into it as well so after he declined, I went for it. Jason was awesome with securing, packing, and shipping her across country. Now fast forward to now. I cleaned the lid when I got it but was intimidated, I guess, to tackle the rest. I was still a little green. Well I pulled it out of the box and got to working on her. She was coated with layers of ash and BBQ sauce. After a pretty good cleaning and going over, she's standing tall. One wheel was wiped when I got her. These were restored . Very happy with her in the end.
Pictures from Jason

Wiped out wheel.

Very nice! I hope to find one as pretty someday.  Bringing something back to its better days is very rewarding.

Nice!  My first RRR was my 72 cado.  Looked pretty much the same inside. Quite a first project, but a great learning experience at the time.  Congrats!

I swear, when I score a great deal on a 26" I'll stop buying grills... So often.

Did you restore the steel wheels or swap them out?  One of them was rusted out pretty badly so I was curious as to how you did the repair if it was the same ones it came with.
