OK...so this happened today. (Pic Heavy)
« on: January 27, 2019, 11:19:41 AM »
I decided to try a brisket today. Got up early and got things going. Sat down for a break and the “OfferUp” app dings. I had put a 20$ offer in on a Go-Anywhere gas and he agreed so I ran out to get it.

It’s a bit rough but I’ll see what I can do with it.

Got back home and tended to the smoker. Then the “LetGo” app dings. Put in a 40$ offer on a Performer a couple of weeks ago and finally got contacted.

Still a rookie here.
Feedback welcomed.
Open to tips & critiques.
How did I do?

I'm no expert, but they both seem like good deals. The performer is probably a better deal in my opinion. Post pics when they're cleaned up.

You dang near stole the Performer, and you got a decent deal on the gas GA.  Grate scores!!!

Obviously looking for a Glen Blue (who isn’t?😂).

Looking for anything Happy Cooker, including any re-branded as Montgomery Ward.  I’ve amassed a nice collection, but I’m missing a few still.  Let me know if you can help a fella out🤞

Not a big fan of the GA's, butt you got a grate deal on that Performer. Good luck!

If you are happy, then I am happy for you!
The Performer will clean up easily. $40 is a steal.
The GA will take some work, but it will be fun and you will have a great camping/picnic grill when done.
A bunch of black kettles

Sounds like a fun day.  Looks like the GA is missing the flavorizor Shield.  If you replace it I’d recommend you get the older style.
How’d the brisket come out? Any pics?

@foshizzle
Dang it!  I knew I was missing something.
Will there be a big difference between the stainless steel & porcelain enamel shield?

Brisket came out just fine.

Yep, it will quickly catch rust.

Nice job on the brisket!  Functionally there’s no difference that I’m aware of and like @qrczak1 said the porcelain enamel won’t have the rust problem. Although mine are the original ones and they have no rust issues but I store them in the garage.

With mine I use the GrillGrates and they are awesome. If you could get away with just buying the GrillGrates and not having to buy the flavorizor that may be a good way to go. But not sure it would work since you may still have drippings falling directly on the burner.

Craycort makes a specific cast iron set for gga with a thick center section that acts as a flavorizer.

Not finished but coming along.
Grates were shot. Charcoal Grate was a complete and rusted mess. Spent an hour and a half scrubbing, soaking, brushing, scraping the cooking grate before coming to the realization that it was just too far gone.
So I went to HD and picked up a couple of new ones....nice & shiny.

Swept out the bowl & lid. Used some soapy water & rags to see what would fall out. Sprayed the bowl & lid with Easy Off grill cleaner closed it up and let it sit outside while I smoked some ribs. Came back after a couple of hour with a razor blade and got the bowl & lid ready for duty.

It’s getting there. Ran a test burn last night. Gas system works but igniter is a no-go. Gonna fix that today if I can.
