When did weber stop using daisy wheels for bottom vents and when did they first start using the one touch system ?

I think they made both for a while. I have a 1998 with daisy vents, which I think is one of the last years. Not positive though...

Both my 2000 grills have the newer style. My 91 has the three small vents. The blue 95 Performer I picked up has the newer style.

The reason I ask is because I have this bowl it has Daisy wheels stamped EZ , there installed with bolts with a flat screw head, so I was thinking they were replacements and that my bowl may be older .

Then yesterday I get this "83" with the one touch system so I was curious

Check out this grill grate that was in the 83 ? Anyone know what the story is with this

I've got one too. Haven't had time to clean it up. I asked the same thing back threads ago. Mine is a red logo grill. Those are WSM vents and screws.
I just can't believe they made many this way, as the ash sweep is way more convenient. Must have kept making a few for the old school Weber customers for transition?

My apologies EZ is 1998 I meant .

Looks to me like something is supposed to sit in the grate, maybe a chicken or turkey roaster ?

The groove is designed to hold the white Weber charcoal starters.  You pour the coals on top and light the starters.

Golly

most of my kettles have that charcoal grate
like G said its for fire lighters
GET ON THAT SHIT
WONT TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER

Heyjude

The charcoal grate is for the cubes.. I think we all agree on that.
Weber made some grills with the 3 wheeler vents that need to be installed by the end user. Nuts and bolts, not rivets. I don't get that thought process by Weber. Anyone?
I also know, cause I have a NIB. It has wood handles as well. Not sure of the year, I will try to get it out by the end of the weekend.
I am thinking late 80's or early 90's.  I am fairly sure that the OT's were produced at the same time as the 3 wheeled vented ones. Most likely the One Touch came out first on the higher end grills and then eventually became the standard. Look at all your MT's and Performers.. Just my 2 sense..

Daisy wheel kettles remained available in the U.S. through 1999. You can still get them overseas.  One Touch came out in 1983... As Heyjude said, the OT was a premium model when it first came out.
