Lime rescued from the dumpster
« on: February 21, 2018, 08:07:37 AM »
A few weeks ago, I posted about a guy that had given me a free load of Weber stuff, including a vintage rotisserie and shiskabob set. When I was picking up those items at his house, he mentioned having a neighbor that had passed away and his wife was being moved to an assisted living facility. He remembered them having an old bright green Weber on their back porch. He said he might be able to get it for me as family members were clearing the house, getting ready to sell it. Calmly, I said “Sure, I would be interested”.

Fast forward to this past Sunday. I receive a text from the guy: “I got the lime green Weber. It does have a couple of dings in the finish but looks pretty well taken care of. It you want it it’s yours.” I picked it up on Monday.

Apparently the family was waiting for a dumpster to be delivered on Tuesday. This lime was sitting with a bunch of stuff in the garage and was going to be thrown in the dumpster on Tuesday. There is a little bit of crazing on the bowl, one small “grate pop” of porcelain and the rear bowl handle has been reattached with small bolts. Small bit of rim rash but the lid is in exceptional shape. Should clean up nicely and will be put into the cooking rotation.

Warmed up enough today so I could clean the exterior.  Think this is as far as I will go.  It is going to be a cooker and I find if I do a full restoration I'm reluctant to cook on it. The color on this lime is the most yellowish lime that I have come across.

The legs, lid vent and ash pan are terribly corroded due to being exposed to salt laden fog that frequents the Oakland hills where it came from.

Dealing with some of that salt laden fog corrosion myself at the moment...and I agree that lime has a very lemonish tint.
