Cheap find, but need help with parts

PBE Gummi, I looked at your thread on the red Performer and saw where you cut the handle off for the ash sweeper. Is that handle seriously the only think heeping you from pushing the sweeper nut back into the kettle and removing that whole assembly?

Also, the bracket that holds the ash ring on... how is that attached, and does that just come right off once the handle is cut off? Based on your photos and description, it looks like that handle holds everything together and merely cutting it off makes everything fall/come apart. If this is the case I may be able to salvage the bracket and rebend it to hold the ash ring or at least use it as a template to make a new one.

Last, in the link just posted for the Mr Heater regulator, is the end on it with the ruber o-ring the end that simply clips into the burner tube? That would make things so much easier, though if I ordered a new regulator assembly from Weber, it should just have the new style end on it, enabling me to use a 5, 11, or 20lb propane tank, correct? Given that this stuff can cost $50 or more I don't want to play trial and error, unlike a few nuts and bolts.

Yeah, that is correct. The thumbscrew in the middle is supposed to release the handle and everything will pop out. They always rust though so usually they need to be cut. You should be able to reuse the bar if it isn't rusted through.

Hey it looks like the parts on this thread is JUST for the regulator. You will still need the hoses, qcc1 adapter, etc.

The regulator that goes on the gas go anywhere would also seem to fit directly to the end of the burner tube: http://www.ereplacementparts.com/valve-and-regulator-p-1477066.html weber part number 52603. The drawback is that the knob may be in an awkward to reach position and the tank is closer to the bowl. I have not verified if it fits but usually the Home Depot has them on display for you to tinker with.

I don;t recomend that you use the Go Anywhere regulator unlesss you can easily get to it.
I would just update to the newer OPD style and use any tank you like. Sure the smaller ones fit better, but I have seen a full size tank under an SS table.

How about some piocs. You may not need all the parts that yuo think.
If the regulator and hose are good, canyuo just change the fitting on the end?
I did that on a gas grill.. Be sure to use teflon tape or thread sealer that is made for Gas fittings.
Of course do a leak test.
Also, you may not have to cut off your ash catcher assemble, sometimes a little penetrationg oil and patience can get it off. Just depends on how rusted it is.

I have seen some of the last of the SS Performers with the newer SS OT and the OPD valve on the tank. Probably circa 2004. I should have made some notes, but I sold that grill and kept a red one.

Not sure. both mine are quick release, but one has the OPD threading the other not, but is has the correct OPD style handle.

You guys are awesome. I was able to pop the ash ring off, then I applied a ton of heat to the nut at the bottom. Was able to twist it out with some pliers. The handle was another story and was rusted solid so that busted right off. the sweeper part fell right off as did the ash ring holder. It's not as bad as I thought and is salvagable. Will wire wheel it then paint with some high heat black. So I need a new sweeper assembly and all will be golden again. (and at least usable!)

I did try to remove the bolts that held in the lid bale and ignitor assembly. Those were rusted solid and may need to be cut off. I think I'll try an impact gun first.

I also realized I can probably make an L shaped bracket and attach it to the front panel on the back side with stainless screws, then pop a hole in the front panel and mount the new style regulator.The on/off  gas control with come through the front like on the newer models.

That's great, Mike. If you have access to impacts and torches a small L bracket will not be a problem. post up pics of the process and final product if you can.

Sweet fund Mike. That thing is in about the same shape as mine was when I got it, you can getting looking nice in no time.

Mine was missing the propane tank , but it had the pipe and on/off valve, so this is what I built for mine. Hope this helps.
I bought a weber portable/picnic grill for $10 and stripped the regulator off of it. Just went to the local Do It Best store and they hooled me up with some fittings to get it the right size for the pipe.

It's literally just a piece of 4in pvc and a couple pieces of wood, cut to space it out so it lines up centered in the cover. I used the original tank bracket on the side.

Hey Brent,
What model Weber gas grill did you take that regualtor off of? It doesn;t look like a Go anywhere or a Q model.. At least not any I have seen.. Thanks, AJ
