Birth Year Yellow Clean Up
« on: July 17, 2017, 09:04:44 AM »
As previously mentioned, I found this kettle on my last day of vacationing in CO last week. The kettle arrived home safely on Friday and I cleaned it up yesterday. This yellow is gorgeous.  Interestingly, i noticed red porcelain coming through on the inside of the lid. Almost seems as if Weber took a red and sprayed yellow porcelain on top of it.

Got 'er cleaned up & looking really nice. Really curious why there would be red overspray.

Btw, there are now two members in Greendale with yellow, birth year Webers.

Obviously looking for a Glen Blue (who isn’t?😂).

Looking for anything Happy Cooker, including any re-branded as Montgomery Ward.  I’ve amassed a nice collection, but I’m missing a few still.  Let me know if you can help a fella out🤞

I know the feeling. Scott Zee recently scored that pristine 22.5" yellow that was about 45min away from me too.  LOL

Here's a better picture of the red porcelain peering through the black. Also have a couple shots of the vertical wet porcelain dripping effect on the bowl.

I wonder if that's why we get the orange-ish color change when yellows heat up.... hmmmm....

That's a great theory behind the color changing on the yellow kettles. I'll post some pictures of mine when I light her up tonight.

I bet that has a lot to do with it.  I bet the red ones have black under the red.  I'm thinking that as the Herek gets hot and the metal expands it actually causes some of the under color to just barely be seen.  Like pores expanding.

On the pic with all the razor rash inside the lid,

Did the finger prints come from the factory?

That razor rash looks worst in that picture than it really is in person.  More like hairline scratches.  The finger print was just me touching the inside of the lid.
