So this popped up yesterday in my area under the posting "Weber charcoal grill $10".  I clicked on it and lo and behold, a good looking redhead!  And an unopened 20# bag of kingsford blue.  They gave their address intersection and said first come, first serve.  I emailed and said I could be there the next day but I didn't want to get involved in a race.  I didn't hear anything, but figured, what the hell, I'd try again and sent my phone number.  This time, they wrote right back and said that they'd hold it for me if I could work out a time.  I told them I'd be there in two hours.  They said ok.

They had it in the garage, I picked her up and gently placed it in the trunk.  I didn't expect it to be an 18", just because it is my understanding that colors are more common in the 22".  I didn't really care, since I have a performer.  I haven't touched it to clean up, but it looks like it has been well taken care of and stored indoors.  The handle isn't rotted, just sunbleached. and the triangle is very clean with minimal rust.  The bowl has one quarter sized chip, as shown in the picture.  The lid has no chips on the main part but a few small ones on the rim.  It does have a bunch of little surface scratches which may or may not buff out with some 0000 steel wool.  The grate needs a good cleaning but doesn't look to have any structural problems that won't scrape off and clean with a little oil.

No date code, has patent code, twist ash catcher but no thumbscrews.  Mid-late 70's?  The picture is as, but I hope to get some time in the next couple of days to clean her up.

The 18's seem to be a little harder to find....

Nice pick-up jko...that will clean up nicely.  A little light sanding and some teak oil will solve the sunbleaching.  Based on your desription, its probably early/mid 70s.

Nice! Except for the color, it is a match of my '74 18.5 (wedding present.)

Welcome to the site. You've mentioned a 22. Do you have other Webers? Don't be shy about introducing yourself. Most of us don't bite.   ;)
kettles, smokers...

Nice little grill you found there!  Please make sure to clean up the previous owners mess and put the legs on right!  LOL

Yeah, and lets see some pics of your grills!

Thanks for the replies and warm welcome folks!  I'll post up some grill family pics and do a proper introduction in a different thread in the next day or two.  I don't have the collection of many here, but I've got a handful.  I'm also on bbq-brethren, tvwbb (don't visit much but the archives there anymore) and another site or two, but I've been lurking around this one more and felt it was the right forum to post about this grill.

Regarding the new addition, I just made lunch on it and realized that I need to replace the lower daisy wheels-two were missing entirely and one didn't want to spin (though I'm sure some wd40 would help it out). That's stuff I would probably have looked at, had the price not been $10 (with 20 pounds of charcoal).  Anybody got the part# for the wheels handy (if memory serves they're sold in 3 packs)? I couldn't find it on a quick search.  Any tricks to their replacement other than drill out the rivet and bolt them up?

In addition to the legs, apparently the previous owner didn't know there's a reason behind the lid hook-the top has a lot of little white scuffs of the type gained either through stuff stored on top of it or putting it upside down on concrete.  Surprisingly good shape for its age all things considered-no chipping or rust near the handle or leg sockets.

Welcome aboard.  That's a great deal.  I paid a little more  for my 77'  Red 18.5.

The  Red 18.5 really is the perfect size to cook a couple steaks for two on Valentines Day.
