Added a 18 WSM to the family
« on: April 22, 2017, 11:49:17 PM »
Picked up my first WSM today. Need to give @lightningboldtz a big thanks for the deal on the WSM. He like normal got to it before me on Craigslist. That's the problem living in the same area as him. But lucky for me he is more than generous to work out a deal. I have purchased two premium kettles off him and a rotisserie. I consider him my local weber dealer.[emoji1]

Can't wait to get it going. Doing a stuffed pork loin tomorrow. I Will post pics. Thanks again Jeff.

What's the date code on that WSM? It looks like there is rust on the legs which would make it a C, D, or E but the door appears to be aluminum.
Interesting.
No matter, that's a nice looking WSM! You're going to love it.
I've got Webers. 10 - WSMs, 5 - 22.5" kettles, 2 - 18.5" kettle, 2 - SJS, 2 - SJP, 4 - WGA, 1 vintage Coolie Pan

I think every Weber fan should have a WSM, at least long enough to learn how to cook on one and decide if they like it (and most will). It adds another dimension to the Weber experience. Congratulations on getting yours! 😀

I agree completely.

Congrats on the wsm Matt. I've neglected mine for a few weeks. Need to fire it up.

No date code. So we think it is a 81 uncoded.

Is the door steel or aluminum?

The door is aluminum.

The door is aluminum.
Then it's not an uncoded 81. An 81 would have a steel door.
It may be as old as an 85, but that's it.

It's strange that has no date code. Like to know the age of it.

Is it possible that someone replaced the door at some point?  I don't know if they are interchangeable but they look like it

That's what I was thinking. My vents are smooth with no date code and legs are steel. I'm not sure if you can switch out the doors.

You can switch out the doors. They are the same except for material.
The overall condition of the WSM causes me to wonder why the door would have to have been replaced.
No matter, it's a great looking pit!

The overall condition of it is very good. The age is not a really big deal. I'm happy I finally got one.
