Nope. A real thing.

Google "little black egg pizza oven" and you will see other examples.

There have been much better jobs done than this one. @swamprb has done a cool one. I'm guessing this isn't his.

I could fix that little black kettle....but I wouldn't give him shit for it.

At least he hacked a modern one.

I have to defend the builder here.

1. The craftsmanship isn't pretty but my mini WSM has some sloppy metal work and that thing is a solid little cooker. Ugly cookers work just fine.

2. He cut up an 18" OTS, not exactly a collectors item, so no harm there.

3. When I do pizza I spent the vast majority of time and fuel preheating the stone. Propane in place coals and wood for preheating is fine as there is no loss of flavor there. If they ran this set up and added wood at cook time to boost the temp and flavor i think it's allowable.

Uh oh. I better not show this...

Before I'm taken outside and shot, in my defense this was done before I realized the sacredness of all MBHs, let alone COLORED ones, let alone REDHEADS, and the glory of restoration!

I bought it for $5 at a yard sale. The sockets were rusted and before I even used it twice, two of them rotted off and the grill collapsed. I put it away in the garage where it sat for years, moved to different corners at each "gonna finally clean the garage" occasion. After 10(?) yrs I put it out front for the taking. Five mins later I said OMG WTF DID I JUST DO?!?. I ran back to the street and luckily, it was still there.

Not too long afterward, I started really getting into grilling and smoking, and saw that gas pizza kettle mod video on youtube and thought here's something I can do w/ the little red Weber.

Also, I saved all the parts, including the cut out enamel, just in case.

I beg the club's forgiveness.   :-[

Nah at the end of the day it's yours to do what you want.  If it's as bad as you said, you did what you could and this is still in the fight.....So what do you do with it?  Just a gas kettle?
