I was given a free Smokey Joe a little while back.  The only parts that are really any good is the lid and base.  The legs are toast and the grates are not there.  I priced replacement parts for it and they would basically be as much as a new one.  Is it even worth messing with?  I dont really have a need for it at this point.  Just curious what you would do with it?

Some guys paint them and turn them into other things like flower holders or small garden pots for strawberries or whatever. Kind of neat.

Is it black?

Yes, its black, the kettle itself is just about perfect.

I'd probably just try to give it away. Run of the mill SJ's aren't worth the $$$ of full restoration parts.

Probably why it was given to me in the first place.  Maybe I will just hang onto it until some free parts pop up.  Not like it takes up much space in the shed.

I was actually reading up on that.  Might be a good winter project.

Mini smoker for sure!!!!  I love mine.  It is very fuel efficient.  I use mine for shorted smokes like pork tenderloins or smaller batches of ABT's.  Did a chicken on it last sunday that came out really good.  Smoked it between 180-190 until the chicken was around 135 then opened up the vents all the way and finished the bird around 350.  Came out great!

Started cleaning the SJ up this evening, looks like I can straighten the legs out and it will clean up like new.  One quick question, are all the legs exactly the same or do they have different bends in them anywhere?  Also, anyone ever paint their SJ legs?

I sandblasted an SJ lid and painted it RED to match one of my 15 Gallon Drum Smokers.
