Leapfrog Cheekin'
« on: September 27, 2015, 03:26:00 PM »
I decided to test my skills on my new copper performer.  Just started a chicken. Injected with Tony's Creole Butter and rubbed it down with evo and a new to me local dry rub that leans heavily on an orange citrus flavor. I love experiments like this.

Wouldn't you just know, hadn't rained in 2 months and now it is coming down. I'm using natural lump coal, set in baskets on either side of my drip pan. My temp has dropped to 300 so I opened my vents WAO.  That means "Wide Ass Open" for you non southern folk.

this is it, first time for me to use it.  It's about as local as you can get and I originally purchased it to try on some grilled mahi mahi. Decided to try it tonite on the chicken instead.

The rain has backed off to a drizzle and my temp is up to 375 since going WAO.

I guess I beat the rain this time. Just pulled the chicken and am letting it rest. Got some finger potatoes and brussel sprouts going as a side. As I pulled the chicken it broke in half and seemed to be mighty tender.

Let me tell you, It was fine. I The skin was crisp, the meat juicy, the leg bones pulled out clean with just a twist and a tug. I am very satisfied with the new to me rub and learning the also new to me Weber is so easy and rewarding. Indirect grilling at its best tonight!

Very nice chicken. Great color on the skin. The potatoes and sprouts look good, how did you do them?
