Almost don't want to use them... That negates the respect part of RRR, IMO though.

Very cool, I love it!! Somebody (I can't remember who) posted a picture of a red kettle/black lid or visa versa. I would love to do a Hawks kettle with these handles. @TheDude
May The Smoke Be With You!

TheDude

@JDD They are going on a black OTP for now. If I ever find a redhead, I'll be doing some rearranging. Or just get another set.

Most of the way mounted, except one roller. The lid bale nut on the back side won't budge. I've tried Mean Green and zippo fluid. Thing won't move. Even twisted the bale a bit.

Dremeling the nut off is the safest way imo. A torch may hurt the porcelain. Alternatively you can try a rust penetratant but wash it off before you cook.

forgive me. I'm not super handy. If I dremel off that portion of the bale, how would I reinstall it?

@TheDude

The Mean Green Cleaner you are using is a good degreaser, but what you need is a penetrating oil to get down into the threads of the bale and get rid of the rust. Do you have anything like PB Blaster handy? Give it a good spray and allow it to soak for 5 min. Next use a wire brush to scrub at the nut as best as possible to help loosen any rust at the surface. Re-spray with a healthy shot of the penetrating oil almost using it to flush away the mess left by the wire brush and then allow it to sit for at least an hour - longer if you're patient ;)

Oh and if possible use a 6-sided socket as opposed to a wrench or a 12-sided as you will maximize your torque on the nut without stripping the corners off.

Good Luck, and keep us posted!

If you wanted to use the heat method you could try lighting a basket of fuel and leave it under the nut, let it heat up then move the basket and try loosening it with a spanner while wearing gloves
