Since the other thread is about a SS performer, I thought I would make a thread about the 2015 Lid Bale on my 13 Performer Platinum.

I went to True Value during my lunch break to take some measurements of the bowl holes before buying the parts from Weber.

While I was there an older gentleman was purchasing a black performer premium to compliment his BGE. He mentioned he wished they came in green. As luck would have it, I had a like new spare green bowl and lid that I just cleaned and pulled off of my performer. I asked if he was willing to trade. He thought about it and said yes, as long as I put his performer together for him. I was smiling ear to ear. I mentioned that the Lid Bale on the new performers are different than the one on my green kettle and don't open as wide. He was fine with it. I took the rest of the day off and assembled his grill.

Once I got home I assembled the Lid Bale on my 13 platinum.

The new rollers are longer

Proper installation of Lid Bale

Note that the Lid Bale wire is not perfectly horizontal anymore.

While I was at it, I installed the metal table I bought a few weeks ago.

New(extremely thin) cover.

I'm happy with the results. Thank you to @ClubChapin for letting us know it fits.

Nice looking performer.  I really need to find a color other than black.
22 Performer - Black - AA ** 22 OTS - Black - Cajun Bandit - AD ** 22 MT - Burgundy - EO
18 OTS - Guinness - DZ **  SJG - Black - Turned into Mini WSM  ** SJS - Lime - AT (x2)

How do you like the lid hook, is it a pain to make sure you land on it?  Any possible scratching?  Thanks.

G$

Super write up.  I am sold on the new bail I guess, but I am not sure I like the lid hook.  Seems like it will be a danger to the rim.

I think I remember reading here the bail vs. bale discussion. I think  it is "bail" in this regard even though I typically go with "bale".

Your lid bale is is installed differently than the instructions call for.  It will work differently with the hook in a different orientation.  Initially, I installed it the same way.

Thanks. I initially installed it like that and the handle hit the rim due to the old style handle orientation so I flipped it. I should have read the instructions but didn't want to lose 50 man points.

Edited to show proper orientation of the Lid Bale support. After I fully tightened the Lid Bale support completely there is about 1/4" gap between the handle lid holder wire.  No more contact.

I'm confused. Where is the potential scraping? On lid rim or bowl rim, and where/when?
It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch

The funny thing is that the instructions included with my 2015 Bale were for the older Bales and not applicable to this particular part.

Good idea.  I am going to bail on the topic!

I call it a bale and weber calls it a bale and you call it a bale and everyone here calls it a bale but it still might be a bail.

bail
noun
1 a :a supporting half hoop
b :a hinged bar for holding paper against the platen of a typewriter
2 :a usually arched handle (as of a kettle or pail)

Wait a minute @G$    "a usually arched handle (as of a kettle)"?

You, of all people should know a handle is not a bale.....

No potential of scraping if installed correctly.

I only use kettles with lid bales.
