Got it now. Could baley understand before.
It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch

Wow, you've really got me thinking/dreaming, @dwnthehatch !  So much so that I'm seriously considering making my own cover for my SS.  With that in mind, could you take a measurement of the gap between your bowl and the apex of the new bale and let me know?

Also, does anyone have the part number for the 2015 bale?  I seem to remember it showing up in this forum, but my search skilz are weak.

EDIT:  Sorry to rattle your cage, Hatch.  I just found the thread, which included the new part number (#65188) and the measurement of the new bale ( +2 inches).

@mike.stavlund  Sorry for the delay. I was just about to measure it but it looks like you found what you needed.

Yes I did, and I will also have my very own 65188 in a few days to make my own comparisons.  ;-)

I am SO happy with this upgrade (though it'll take me about a year to get over that reflexive freakout when the lid tips past where I'm expecting it to rest).

One of the things that I don't think the designers of the SS Performers anticipated was the chimney starter, which rests right underneath the open lid. I've seen a few SSes with heat damage right there, so this is a great improvement.  Plus it's a lot easier to get grates and food on and off.

The difference in the gap is just under two inches, but that's plenty of room to make all the difference. Now to sew my own custom cover to keep this all out of the weather.  Wish me luck...

PS.  I was in such a hurry that I put those rollers on backwards...  I'll fix that as soon as the grill cools down.

Argh!  I called Weber and asked to buy the new bale.  I was told it was not compatible with my grill, and they could not sell it to me!

They're just like the IRS......call back at a different time of day, a few days later & quite possibly get a better answer.... 8)

Don't ask to order the new lid bale. Just order by part #.
