Hello WKC,

it's a long time ago that I've been active here. I'm very sorry!!!
My now 7 months old son is keeping me very busy in my free time but I keep on grilling as often as possible.

But now I have some good news for you. Another "old" kettle is rescued and will now be restored and respected.

So here's the story how I came to my 5th Weber:

In the past I often thought about building a outdoor kitchen in our garden. I had a lot of different ideas and plans.
But all plans had the same problem -> not enough space in the garden.
So in the end after many discussions with my wife I finally accepted that there will be no way to build up a nice outdoor kitchen.  :'(

I decided that another or new table near to the grills (maybe with wheels) could already be helpful.
So the plan was that I wanted to change something in the garden in summer.
...

And then last weekend... Destiny!!!

On the Swiss auction website (where I already found my Red Beauty Master Touch and the thrifty legged brownie) I've found this wonderful red SS Performer:

There were 3 more pics, but not very good.

The auction was starting at 30 CHF, about 30 $.
I didn't think about it one second, I just knew I want it and I need it.

There was already 1 bid on it and so I've set my highest price to 51 CHF (if needed I would have gone higher :) ).

And so two days ago the auction ended at 41 CHF !!!!
42$ for a SS Performer, muhahahahaha isn't that great  8)

I felt like winning the jackpot  ;D ;D ;D

Maybe some cleaning and polishing, a few hours of work (that's how I expect it to be from the pics) and I have another great grill in my lineup. Yippie

I'm gonna pick it up the next two weeks and be sure to be updated with some nice pics before and after cleaning/resto.

I wish you all a nice weekend, have some great grilling time with your families at these wonderful spring days

Sebastian

Congrats, great deal!  Can't wait to see the cleanup.

Thank you very much !!!

I hope I'll have enough time in the next days or weeks for a nice cleanup.

Sadly it seems like there comes no cover with the grill and so it would stand in the rain  :'(
As I found out the cover # 8701 would be the right one fo the Performer but is no longer available.

I asked Weber Germany and they told me that # 7457 is the newer version of this cover. But I can't imagine that it fits correct on the old Performer because it seems to be for the One Touch Deluxe/Platinum...??

Anybody here who knows exactly?

Congratulations! I do not know the answer to your cover question, but I know that it has been discussed here. Maybe @Craig or @1buckie can help...

The new covers don't fit.  Sometimes hardware stores with old stock will have one. They are hard to find.

It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch

Gonna pick it up on Saturday!!
I called the seller company today, they're selling stuff of companies that stop working or households that had to be cleaned and so.
He told me that they have a trainee at the moment and she had nothing to do so cleaned up the grill that it looks like new now.
We'll see how she did my job...

The Performer has arrived in his new (and hopefully last) home !!!  ;D

For the transport I had to disassemble the Performer. It's quite bigger than I thought.

So you now get a few pics of the pieces at first.

I will clean and polish everything over the next days / weeks and then we'll see how the stainless steel shines in the sun  8)

The charcoal bucket got a bit too much heat.

Rust on the axle, work for the steel wool ...

SS table looks pretty good, a bit of polishing should be enough.

The small part of the table maybe needs a bit more work.

Am I seeing it right that this is the foil which prevents from scratches? That should normaly be pulled off before use, or not?

EZ-Code

The kettle looks really good, emaile is perfect.
Only the plastic "rolls" of the lid holder are damaged by the heat, but still working

One Touch cleaning system is working fine, just needs a bit of love and everything's fine

Grates are looking alright for that age

I'm pretty happy with my 1st Performer and I'm looking forward to grill on that nice pieve of history when I spent some hours of work an reassembling.

Have a nice day,

Sebastian

Wow you got yourself a great Performer and a fun project!
It is in much better shape than mine was when I got it.

Great score, and yes that white plastic is normally peeled off before use. 8) Congrats!
