Mod Month Official Master Thread!
« on: October 01, 2014, 04:31:55 AM »
This is it! The place to post your amazing kettle mods. You have the full month to show off all the things you've done to improve the functionality, usefulness, appearance or fun of grilling with your Weber.

Don't hold back, the simple and the complex are both equally important to see, and everything that shows up here will be immortalized in a special section of the gallery. Please describe the mods you submit as best you can. We want to know what went into the project, the parts you found, made, scavenged or stole, and how it made the grilling experience better for you.

C'mon WKC - show us what you got!

A quick reminder of the rules:

1. You must be a registered member of the WKC by October 31st to submit an entry.
2. Previously modified grills posted to the forums that are not in the current mod gallery are allowed.
3. Member "teams" are allowed, but only a single entry can be posted for each mod.
4. Mods must include a Weber charcoal kettle, GA, WSM, Ranch, or SJ in some way.
5. Action shots showing your modified grill fired up and cooking are encouraged.
6. Pics and description of your modified grill(s) must be submitted by October 31st by 5:00pm PST.
7. Members may submit as many modified grill entries as they like.

I must mod a kettle, a GA, a WSM, and a ranch?  That's too much for me...

Bisbee submission
« Reply #6 on: October 01, 2014, 01:57:08 PM »
I will get the party started.  Below is a summary of Bisbee.  Although this kettle is already in the customs gallery, it has since undergone some significant changes including the installation of real copper panels, replacing the stainless steel ones.

Project Bisbee Copper themed project build on a SS performer frame

Features:
Original kettle removed and frame disassembled, sandblasted, and powder coated gloss black
2014 copper bowl and lid ordered from Weber and installed
All hardware replaced with stainless steel
   Weber logo painted copper
Stainless steel top and front panels replaced with replicas custom formed from a sheet of solid copper.
Koa wood handles for the lid and table
   Tel Tru thermometer
Lid mod to allow lid to be hung on the bale wire for better access
   Custom wheels painted to match
Custom ash pan made from a copper plated pan.  Ash can ring painted with high temp gloss black paint.
Propane tank location moved to the back of the frame to partially hide the tank.
Copper themed Mini WSM built to match.

In an ongoing relationship with a kettle named Bisbee.

Although this was a subject of a recent post, I thought i would get it into the mod month thread:

Project Wapiti WSM style smoker build on a Smokey Joe Platinum kettle

Features:
18.5 diameter body with 2 grill grates.  Grate spacing allows vertical spacing for 2 beer can chickens on the bottom grate
1mm Hardened, 20 gallon stainless steel body
Elk themed logo done with high temperature paint
Lid with custom elk antler handle
   All stainless steel hardware
6 tall charcoal basket for long burn times
Custom mount for Thermoworks TW8060 unit
Brass-sleeved holes integrated into the grate mounts to allow routing of multiple temperature probes.

In an ongoing relationship with a kettle named Bisbee.

Hey Winz..where did you get the wheels in the first few pics? Not the spoke ones but the solid painted ones? If you have a link, that would be awesome. So many on Amazon, I want to make sure I get the correct ones.

Beautiful work by the way..

Amazing work Winz! Love the copper theme. This photo is my favourite. How hard was it to repaint the badge? (PM me if you like so as not to clog the thread).

Silver to Gold conversion.   I ordered two ash rings and buckets to convert my two Sam Adams 18.5 Silvers to Golds.

On to the operating table!

The parts

I took the legs off to take the clips that held the ashpan on for the silver and then snapped the ring in place and fixed the sweeper and the arm and finished

The twins!
Wanted: 18" Platinum any color will work
This is my Kettle there are many like it but this one is mine......

Twins! Thanks for becoming a member of the Mod Squad Ron. Somebody needs to do an Oktoberfest kettle in a nice amber color. But as most here know, I'm very fond of Black. I may need to follow your lead here!
