Well, I always forget to take the before pics.
I believe that this poor grill sat out where the sprinklers hit it every night. Hard calcium build up all over the frame and a few good pockets of rust at the joints.
The ash pan and ring were very rough, stained with calcium and rust. There was a nickel-sized hole in the bottom of the pan.
The lid has a zillion of these marks all the way around it.
I could not get these to rub out with my 0000 steel wool.
A full on restoration of this grill was starting to look expensive and time consuming. I was not about to give up on it though, just tweak the plans a bit and BOOM! A rat-rod resto!!
A good rat-rod needs a flat black frame. So I painted it.
With this:
3/8" all-thread through the cross tubes. No more rusty star nuts!
Ace Hardware had the new SS bolts.
And the little bushings for the table lid.
This stuff
Fixed the hole right up!
I painted the pan flat black and the ring gloss black. I put it all back together and fired it up!
And here is the finished product.
