Lime Color Variation question
« on: November 25, 2013, 09:47:28 AM »
Were all 22" Limes (aka Gardener) Key Lime color?  I put these two together over the weekend.  There is a noticeable difference in color.  The 18.5" is more of a green color.

More than likely it's similar to the blues in that no two are alike. Also it could depend on model year. Your 18 has small bow tabs yes? Lime introduced in 1974. The 22 has large tabs, presumably a 1975 or later kettle.

Thanks for the input.  Yes, the 18.5 is small tab and the 22.5" large tab.  Several members have a 22.5" lime.  It seems this size is always key lime.

Back to the 'gardener' nomenclature.  I have seen it repeated, but I do not recall ever seeing it in Weber print?  Is there an example of Weber calling the limes the "Gardener" that I missed?

Stephen, both are awesome grills. Looking at condition, I would say the 18 has seen more sun. Knowing a little about color and sun light, my guess is the 18 has seen more sun. Yellow is a high burnout color to sun. If the pigmentation has yellow and green combination, yellow will fade and green will become dominant. Green is a non fading pigment.

I have had two yellows, both shined up different. The more weathered had less pop, even after an oxidation wax treatment. But it was still a Yellow and pretty!

Here is an old article that refers to the Gardener.  There is also a poster out there too.

Thanks Stephen, I think I have read that article before.  I love how the lime is referred to as "hideous".

But I wonder if anyone has seen the "Gardener" name in Weber literature.
