I was supposed to meet someone for lunch at 1:00 PM but that got pushed back to 2:00 PM. And whereas I should have had the chicken in the marinade before the meeting, I did not. But I did pick up the chickens from the store.
I picked up a couple 7 pound "oven stuffers." Got them on the marinade at 2:00 PM and in the cooker by 4:20. Within half an hour they were coloring up from the chunks of mesquite I set on the lump.
This is the maiden voyage for my UDR (Ugly Drum Rotisserie.) While it was not without some excitement, it generally performed well. The problem I ran into was with the motor end of the spit as far as it would go in the motor bracket, the bird on the spit extended a bit past the edge of the ring.
I'll need to provide a slotted hole by the motor bracket to provide for further insertion while the spit is at an angle sufficient to clear the edge of the ring. With a little persuasion, I was able to get everything into the ring.
Here's the ring in action, all gussied up with a coat of BBQ paint.
A couple hours later the birds were nearly ready to come off.
No plated pix, sorry. We were hungry! and the chicken was delicious.
