Spinning a Kettle
« on: October 15, 2013, 12:41:19 PM »
Lot's of talk at the Chicago meetup about spinning vs. stamping kettles. Thought you would like to see metal spinning in action, so here's a YouTube showing a huge kettle shape being spun. It's like a mega-ranch. Imagine how many wings you could get on this baby!

Check the related videos for a look at each stage in the process. Very cool. Warren mentioned that Weber would mount his blanks to a lathe like this and roll the edges to be sure of a tight seal. I would love to see videos of that!

Pretty cool. Seems like a fair bit of work goes into them. I had no idea it would be that labour intensive. So were the Kettle's spun up by hand as well, or is there an automated process for it?

Incredible! That guys hand is extremely close to the spinning metal too. Really cool craftsmanship going into that. No wonder a kettle lasts as long as it does.
